New: Bishop Self Propelled Gun

Our latest addition to the huge range of Bolt Action resin and plastic vehicles is this resin British Bishop.

The Bishop was a British self-propelled artillery vehicle based on the Valentine tank, with a somewhat boxy fixed armoured compartment mounting a 25 Pounder gun-howitzer.

WGB-BI-184-Bishop-SPG-aThe Bishop was built for the fast moving North African campaign, but it’s high silhouette made it easy to spot in the desert. In addition the limited gun elevation seriously reduced the gun’s range, leading to crews building large ramps of earth to raise up the front of the entire vehicle!

Originally entitled “Ordnance QF 25-pdr on Carrier Valentine 25-pdr Mk 1” by the War Department, it was soon renamed the “Bishop” by the average infantryman, related to its high mitre-like boxy superstructure (or some say because its superstructure resembled a church pulpit).

The Bishop made it;s combat debut at the 2nd battle of Alamein and would go on to fight across the Western Desert and also in the Italian campaign before being replaced by the M7 Priest.
