Local Store Highlight: Linhas de Torres, Portugal

Linhas de Torres is a shop born from a passion for modelling, but caters widely for the whole family of hobbyists, from plastic models to arts and crafts.

Beginnings

“I´ve been a modeller all my life. My father was also a modeller and my grandfather built boats from scratch. In 2006/2007 started to produce bits and pieces in resin and diorama materials. We started participating in model shows and exhibitions.”

“The next step was the Store. The core business of the store is ‘the Hobby’, in all its variants. We started to notice that in Modelling stores the partners of the hobbyists often didn’t want to go in, or didn’t approve of the money spent. On the flip side in arts & crafts stores the partners of the artisan had the same behaviour. So joining our passions and hobbies we decided to create “the hobby Store”. The concept is that we have everything for the all whole Family.”

“So if you’re looking for paper for scrapbooking, and happen to find a Warlord Games Napoleonic Infantry box, it’s not strange. Just look 2 shelves across.”

“We stock all your modelling needs; model kits, gaming paraphernalia, tools, paints, diorama materials and everything else.”

“We try to have a little bit of everything in stock or will order in what we don’t have.”

The store recently participated in an event commemorating the Battle of Vimeiro of 1808, in which the British (under the future Duke of Wellington) repelled the French, putting an end to their first invasion of Portugal.

“We offer workshops and courses, of all kinds!  Figure painting, Planes, Tanks, Terrain building, airbrushing. And we even run simultaneous courses so you can take a course in making a model Airplane whilst your partner learns how to make a Scrapbook Album.
