References/Archives Forum

I was just thinking, how helpful the US WWII Equipment Thread would be, and how such threads would be such a help to members.

Considering the fact that at present, of course these threads aren't posted on often, they will soon drop out of sight and so not be seen or used.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to add another section to the forum for reference, and archived material. Have it, so that no one can create topics in that area, but that a moderator can move topics to that area if they are considered a good reference. Presumably, this would have sub categories, but it would be nice to be able to go and look up say someone US netting for a paint scheme, and know exactly where to look instead of looking through pages and pages of threads which are unlikely to be used.

I don't imagine that there would be a lot of material like that on the forum, but it would definitely encourage people to post their findings and references for the benefit of all forum members if there was a place for them to remain visible and accessible.

Just my 2c. What do you think?

Thanks for the big up mate! I think it's always a good idea to share information. A lot of the time on forums you find that information is a closely guarded commodity and is only shared when you're being told you're wrong because of 'x'. The big thing in terms of real references in historical miniatures and models is that you might not know what something is or what it's made of and paint it wrong and some references can lead you up completely the wrong path.

Anyone played Brothers in Arms Hells Highway? The artists on that game have painstakingly modelled and textured in US gear... And got post war versions instead. Helmets are rear seam rimmed (more on that in US reference thread later), post war M1 garand parts and the most horrendous is the M-1944 goggles on all the helmets - those things were never used in the ETO. Korea yes.

Research can take a long time but if you already know it then it only takes a tick to put it all down for everyone else.

Exactly.

I don't play Americans, but I was very interested in your thread, and I do believe that if anyone finds sites, or has equipment that would be worth posting, it should be supported.

I have to say that Warlord Forums are wonderfully positive, and the community here is great. For that reason, it would be the perfect place to save what people share, and, it would be a valuable asset and attraction to the Warlord Site, once it built up a fair amount of material.

Lol, Hells Highway was a good game, but yes, I know what you mean about how easy it is to get it wrong, and it is damned helpful to be able to find people who actually know something about stuff. One of my favorite things about good forums is the fact that you can ask questions and expect them to be answered,. It really gives you access to people who know their stuff. Regrettably the internet also leaves it open to people who only think they know their stuff.

Arcadyon, I am not exactly sure what you are asking.

But if you go to the forum page you will see the following sections:

-the most recent posts,

-welcome to the warlord Games forum,

-warlord games ranges, and

-wargaming

So if you click on one of them it will take you to all the old topics, threads and posts. So if you started an equipment thread in Wargaming, WWII, you could just take that path to get back to it. There is also a search function to help you out, and I am sure with that combination it would meet your request.

Is that what you are looking for or is it something else?

Are you suggesting Warlord creates a dedicated reference page? Because if that is the case, although nice to have, I would prefer warlord games concentrates on making beautiful miniatures. And Web Page-based work is horrendously expensive to out-source.

Cheers,

Jim
