Dacians Rules

Postby sammy-1979 » Sat Jun 20, 2009 9:58 am

i don't know if this has been discussed before & if so I'm sorry for not finding the thread.

any way as a recent convert to WAB & a tight wad I've recruited most of my books from auction & 2nd hand book stores & subsequently there a bit old like myself.

however my fellow convert wants to do a dacian force & would like to know which if any book has them in, & if not what is the best troops in the books to represent dacians rules wise.

we have: fall of the west, chariots(not arrived yet), sparticus, shield wall and hanibal as well as a copy of the 1998 WAB rules, any help would be best apriciated by my friend as he fancies cleaving my poor legionaries in two on a regular basis, i'm not so bothered to be fair as i quite fancy maintaining my superiority.

again i apologise if this is a overly stupid question. and has been covered so many times i deserve culling.

Dacians Rules

They're part of the main Barbarian list within the rulebook but have an appendix section on page 172 in the edition that I have. I'd post up the specifics but I'm not entirely sure I'm allowed to… Ach, sod it;-

1. Warriors and light infantry may replace their swords with 'halberds' (actually, the dreaded falx) at +2pts per model.

2. Light infantry may be armed with a bow for +2pts per model.

3. No chariots allowed.

Dacians Rules

There will be a separate list for Dacians in Legion, which will be published (hopefully) early next year. It isn't be radically different from the existing Barbarian list, so using that and the notes that Parus Ater has helpfully added above you can't go wrong really. If you want to include Roman bolt throwers just use the points and profiles for Scorpios in the Roman list, and if you want Sarmatian allies then use the points and profiles for Roman cataphracts. That will get you by.

Cheers

Dacians Rules

My copy of WAb only goes up to 144...

That has the Mountain Tribe Army Variant rules on page 130, to represent Dacians, which disallow chariots and warriors, but allow any amount of points to be spent on Mountain Tribesmen.

Mine has that as well but the 2005 edition has additional pages, rules clarifications and a few army lists. The book is exactly the same otherwise, just extra pages at the back.

Dacians Rules

I think the Dacian amendments appear on Page 130 of the orginal rulesbook then there were some amendments in the AOA lists which were included in the later 1.5 version. i don't think there were any additions to the orginal dacian amendments as Parvus has provided, the additional notes had ideas for german and Britons.
