Postby Chesh » Tue Jul 10, 2012 9:30 pm

I have only quickly scooted around but nothing is jumping out at me...

Can anyone recommend any sites that have the order of battles (with troop numbers) for the AWI.....

thanks in advance

I did a lot of OOB research for the AWI and for many battles I found the official numbers. In Books. A very painstaking work and a lot of money spent in it for old books. That's why you find few in the Internet.

A sample:
16.8.1777 Bennington / Walloomsac

RoyalForces: COBaum
Prinz Ludwig Dragoner 205, Grenadiere 54, Light Infantry 57, mixed group from Riedesel / Specht / Rhetz = 37, British marksmen 48, local Loyalists 150, Hessen-Hanau artillery 13 with 2x 3pdr, Queen’s Rangers 150, Canadians 56, Indians 100, Breyman Grenadiere 353, Light Inf 277,
207 kia and wounded, 700 captured

Congressmen:
Gen. Stark 3.000 total / Hobart’s 150, Nichol’s 550, Stickney’s 150, Militia ? ,Langdon’s dismounted horse , Vermont Militia 650, Stimmond’s Militia Rgt30 kia, 40 wounded

Ah, but IO, now you've put it on the internet! Another nail in the coffin!

I've got Don Troiani's ACW book and it's just beautiful. Not cheap, but I'd say a quality purchase.

This page is not bad but with a lot of small mistakes. And rarely the detailed numbers are given.

For a battle like Guilford Court house we have the exact day report of HM forces. The simple statement "Battalion" is not enough with a range between 240 and 530 men present there in battalions.

Yes it's the numbers needed to try and plan around making as true as possible to the actual battle and what is needed in the way of minis that I am looking for....

Must admit I have been looking around at ACW, AWI and the Penninsular War online and not had much luck with any. Hmmm, I may take a trip to Waterstones next week while I am off work and see what I can find

Try this one

http://usacac.army.mil/cac2/cgsc/carl/nafziger.asp

read the finding guide first but generally the first 3 numbers eg 778 represent the year so 1778. it can be a bit of a trawl but you can often fin what you are after.
I need a cuppa and lie down. Its all to hard.
