Shield colors

I was wondering if there was rhym or reason to the color of shields in republican roman armies. Any tips?

Nobody really knows. Seriously. There is no evidence. So feel free to do whatever seems logical/takes your fancy.

I have seen a few people do Roman Legions with red shields and Allied Italian legions with white shields. Not sure how accurate it is but it looks great on the tabletop. Good way of clearly distinguishing between Roman and Allied Italian units.
