Plastics for the SYW

Will Warlord ever do plastics for the SYW?

The first wargaming book I read was Charles Grant's The Wargame and I would love to recreate the big 48 figure battalions in 28mm at an affordable price. Your BPB rules sound as if they are on similar lines. Simple rules and lots of figures in big units.

Plastics for the SYW

RSM95 from DPC are cheaper than plastics and many regard them as the best SYW figures around. They are good for Grant-like battles as they can fit on 16mm bases, the narrow width is essential for big battalions. 24 figs at 16mm = 384mm unit frontage, whereas chubby = wider work out at 24 figs at 25mm = 600mm unit frontage. Small frontage is essential for a Grant-like game on a 9'x7' table. The figures in The Wargame were actually meant to be generic GNW not SYW, though not enough detail on the figures to easily tell the difference. They were plastic versions of traditional Swedish wood-carved 30mm soldiers, Swedes being one of the main adversaries in the GNW.

If I had a vote, I'd prefer generic Grant-like GNW figures rather than specifically SYW figures. This would be cost-effective for plastics as a full SYW range might be too large a project. Two boxes would be sufficient - one for cav, one for inf. Buy artillery in metal. Inf would contain all types in the same box - tricorn, grenadier, fusiliers, officers and perhaps dismounted dragoon. Cav would be heavy, dragoon, officers and medium (non-armoured heavy).

SYW, my favourite period! Just imagine: a single box could cover the whole Old Fritz infantry, musketeers/fusiliers/grenadiers, with simple heads swaps. The same goes for Von Daun austrians… I can't imagine someone better suited to make this range then the warlord guys and with the BP rules coming up… I know they have ecw in the making (I bought 3 boxes at Salute even if it's not my period, they're a pure joy to paint) and lots of things to come, but I join the thread and hope for it.
C'mon Paul, old boy, make us dream! Oh, my… I don't even dare to dream of it…

Greetings from Italy and a big thanks to Warlord for their good work

That would be very nice! But probably not going to happen soon, they've just started releasing their Pike and Shotte range and if I understand correctly, they're back to ancients after that. Who knows in the future though....

I would like to add my voice to the clamoring throng asking for SYW minsitures in plastic. I'm buying up your ECW figs by the boatload, and the idea that the profits from those would go towards getting these satrted my be incentive enough for me to buy some more ;)
