To be honest... if you have the space, keep it. If in doubt if you will use it in the future do not buy anything new.

I think that is the best way to do it. There have been many times over the past 15 yars, when I have thought that the group I was playing with was breaking up and that this would be the end to it and I have always come across other people to game with. If I remember my trip to Canada Alberta and Edmonton are not close, but only an hours drive from where you live. So if push really comes to shove, you will only play less often, but I really doubt you will ever completely leave the hobby. I think were all like US Marines... we never cease being Marines... err Wargamers.

And like someone said... I have never heard of anyone who did not mourn selling off a collection!

Cheers,

Burkhard

I flogged off old Warhammer mins after falling out of love with the system, but have since regretted getting rid of a couple of the older metals, but not the vast majority. If you love the models, keep 'em. If not, no big loss.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have purged for the last two years just to get to where I am at now - mostly GW, but some historical too.

What I am going to purge next:
Wings of War - I have a complete set from WW1-2, including a the planes, balloons, boxed sets, and even three rare promo gold/silver event prize planes. Think this should bring good dollars.
Legends of the Old West with two gangs, one painted.
DP9 Heavy Gear sci-fi game
Bolt Action - yes, I am pre-empting the coming rules - if anyone is interested... Could trade for Nap Russians or Prussians or British

What I am going to consider purging:
Flames of War. It's simple, it's fun, and I have opposing sides now. Only real downside is that I will need 15mm terrain.
I could sell the minis, and replace them with 6mm GHQ instead. It works... Downside is I will only be able to play with like minded gamers. Solo possibly. But my opponent when playing solo is an arse, and a cheater.

Definitely Keeping and can't bear to part with:
Nap French - might look at swapping part of the unopened for an opposing force with someone - British, Russians, Prussians as I have far too many French. Anyone interested?
Sudan collection - a very interesting and unique project.
ECW - having a really hard time finding a case - might have to take eBay funds and get a Battlefoam for them. Also want to rebase and rethink them. Pikes at all angles are a nightmare.
Naval. Too pretty to sell off, and not much money in that market. Plus they take up no space really.

So, if I can get it down to this, I could use my boards that I am making as they could pass for 6mm to 28mm as long as no buildings are glued on to betray scales.

Personally, I would find the one period that you play and enjoy most and focus solely on that. For me it's WW2 skirmish in 28mm.

I'd never get rid of any more armies - I've always later regretted the ones that I did. Securely pack up the stuff that you aren't using and store it away in the attic is my advice.

If you start getting short of storage space, move the cellar into the attic and double the room.

The only stuff I've ever regretted selling was my GHQ Micro Armour, a large portion of which had appeared in their catalog online and in print.

My GW stuff I was happy to say goodbye to, other historical stuff has come and gone.

I think I might narrow it down to the GHQ naval and 6mm Moderns, and Napoleonics/Sudan/ECW.

The rest is going to get dumped. Should feel good when it goes!

What's wrong with going solo?! Welcome to my world.

This is the biggest reason I get nothing done.

Well, I created all my listings tonight. I always start everything on a Sunday, 10 June is launch day. I can't believe how much stuff I just end up with!

Wings of War World War 1 - Gaming mats, both East and West
Wings of War World War 1 - complete set of Series 2 miniatures - 12 planes!
Warlord Games Bolt Action US Marines with M4A3 tank SEMPER FI!
Wings of War World War 1 - all three SPAD XIII from Series 1
Wings of War World War 1 - Balloon Busters - SET OF TWO BOXES
Warlord Games Bolt Action Japanese Army - larger lot! PAINTED TANK.
Wings of War World War 2 Miniatures Series 2 - COMPLETE SET 12 planes
Wings of War World War 2 Miniatures Series 1 - COMPLETE SET 12 planes
Warlord Games Bolt Action Fallschirmjagers - 22 miniatures
Wings of War World War 1 - complete set of Series 4 miniatures - 12 planes!
Wings of War World War 1 - all three ALBATROS D.Va from SERIES 1
Wings of War World War 1 - all three CAMELS from Series 1
Wings of War World War 2 - Deluxe Starter Box! 4 aircraft...
Wings of War World War 2 - Dawn of War box and Fire from the Sky
Wings of War World War 1 - complete set of Series 3 miniatures - 12 planes!
Wings of War World War 1 - ALL THREE FOKKER DR1 from Seri...
Wings of War World War 1 - VERY RARE PROMO PLANES - 2 SIL...
Wings of War World War 1 - complete collection of boxed sets - 4 boxes total!
Heavy Gear Blitz FULLY PAINTED PAK army with Battlefoam b...
Legends of the Old West - Warhammer Historical - out of print - with 12 minis
Flames of War Germans, Canadian Paras and Canadian North Shore Regiment. Decided to not keep these, as I planned to do a D-Day Juno Beach Nan Red campaign. Well, that's the dream. Gone.

And this still leaves me with:
Nap French - 1000 or so minis
Sudan - both sides of the war - around 250 minis in total
GHQ Nap Naval - 20ish Royal Navy ships
GHQ WW1 Naval (small amount for both sides, maybe Dogger Bank)
GHQ WW2 Naval (large, both sides for Atlantic)
GHQ Cold War 1960s - enough to have a game
And of course ... my ECW! Which I still have to sort a case out for. Bloody pikes.

By the way, I would still be up for trading some of my French - Cuirassiers and Line by Perry - for Prussians Perry and Warlord. If anyone is interested. And if I don't trade my excess off, I might have to ebay some of the extra French.

I would second the comment about scale when it comes to terrain.I have 20mm WW2, but everything else is in 28. Well there are some 15mm napoleonics boxed up somewhere. They've not left their barracks for over 10 years, but they're my only concession to the horde gene :D
