Inspired by your conversions, I was sniffing around the interwebz looking for some plastic cavalry with long coats; sadly they don't seem to be available. :(

Did you see http://wargamesfactory.com/webstore/horse-and-musket/wss-cavalry? That's what I'm gonna use for my mounted Cossacks...

You know, I had forgotten all about them. I was looking mostly at Perry's various Napoleonic Cavalry sets. Those WSS would require the least amnount of putty; my only hesitation is that I have been using their Persian plastics to make my Andalusians and although the detail is nice they go together very poorly.

Edit: I want to make these dudes. :)

I have no experience with the wgf Persian cavalry, but I can say that their wss cavalry is quite different in style from their Persian infantry, generally being slimmer for one. I can post some comparisons tonight if you want...

My beef with the Persians is that the heads and arms do not go on the torsos naturally. I have heard that their later sets have improved somewhat.

Oh, I see what you mean. I'd say the WSS set is pretty good, if not spectacular, on that front. Honestly, you'd probably be best off using arms from a different kit anyway, since Cossacks (Kuban or otherwise) don't wear those giant 18th-century cuffs that the WSS horsemen have.

Anyway, glad to hear I'm inspiring people (even if the inspiration doesn't always pan out in practice...)
