Project - Berlin 1944-1949 (Pic Heavy)

For a while now i have contemplated building a Berlin city board for 28mm WW2 and Secrets of the Third Reich, and after seeing The HO scale buildings from FALLER



So I decided to copy them, (Shamelessly steal)

WIP Building 1 (Corner)





In the last image, the vertical grey line down the plain brick wall is where the building breaks into 2 parts revealing a playable interior with removable floors.
I still have to add the basic structure - a column of balconies up one side and a column of bay windows up another, then the interior and exterior needs detailing with interior walls and staircases, loads more to do!

You should make sure that the roof border of your buildings is 22 meter or less from ground. In Berlin there was a law that dictated the "Traufhöhe".

Typical for Berlin are the backyards. The minimum size was regulated by the fire brigade, the jumping blanket size dictated it.

And the Eckkneipe (pub at the corner) is a must for a Berlin scene.

Do you know Tony le Tissier book , Berlin Then and now? A very good source for the look of the buildings.

@ invisible officer, 22m translates to 392mm at 1:56 so the building is well below that height at 269mm so approximately 15.1m, with the chimney stacks added it is a total of 360mm tall,
i will keep you all updated

a quick update.....
Sick of cutting foamboard and card for a while I did a paint test on the roof tiles, with added bird poo!

God! It's like where I work! (I install TV aerials for a living). Really reallistic. a word of note though. Generally most guano is deposited up towards the ridgeline. If you have chimneys then bird deposits tend to 'pile' on top of them and on ornamental brickwork. Also, if you can look at a tiled/slate roof you'll also note some yellow moss patches generally where the ridge tiles and roof tiles meet.
I can take some close up photos next time I'm installing (rather than being in the office as I am today) if it helps

Are those times scratch made or from embossed styrene type sheets?

@mikeland - They are made from tiny hearts made with the missus card making punch, very much like a hole punch, i have layered the inverted hearts (it takes a while, but ultimately worth it)
