Couldn't stop with just the book - had to get the Pike & Shotte Surgeon, Pike & Shotte Mule Train, ‘Old Tom’ the Marksman (now I wonder if I'll have two!) and threw in a pack of Roman Sentries as well!!!! :D

Well done! If you make it to Enfilade - I'll reserve you a space in the game then. Read up on your Kalvan of Otherwhen! The board for this is bigger & better & drawn from the site where the actual fictional battle took place - yes I know that sounds strange but Piper used an actual location in Pennsylvania (where oddly enough my ancestor had his first farm after leaving the Hessian Army) for the site of the battle. It should be a rough ford crossing with the numerical odds favoring the Nostori.

Please also let me know what you think of the maps after you get the book - feedback (positive or negative) is always useful to me for helping establish a "style". I also have photo-prints of the maps available through my website if you desire.

So I think you'll be just find. You could easily do a Battalia box on each side or even more. We fielded 9 infantry units(40 figures each: 16 pike, 24 shotte), 4 dragoon regiments (12 figures each), 8 Cavalry regiments (12 figures), & 5 sakers on the table between the two sides. I think that's a sizable game.

Time to dust off my ECW Parliantarians methinks and add to them from the lead pile hiding in the corner.

I reckon i have painted (using the numbers mentioned):

3 x Pike/Shott regiments
1 x Dragoons
2 x Medium/Heavy Cavalry
1 x Cuirass [Early War]
2 or 3 guns

And enough lead to double the infantry

I've ordered the book

Looking forward to this

Just checked - using Pike/Shote on a 20:20 ratio [16 man Pike blocks look too small to me] i have enough unpainted to get 4 more regiments*( 7 x in total) and sundries - wounded for markers etc, another piece, artillery guards, another unit of cavalry ...

Painting hat on once i finish my final Colonial British infantry platoon

* its that or bump 6 regiments to 24/24s which would look better (4 figs to 20mmx20mm basing) and give me options to take off a base or two here and there as required - i think i'll do that

So, i should have in time:

6 x Pike/Shott regiments [24:24]
1 x Dragoons
2 x Medium/Heavy Cavalry
1 x Cuirass [Early War]
4 x Artillery
.. I think that the poorest he that is in England hath a life to live, as the greatest he; ... and I do think that the poorest man in England is not bound in a strict sense to that government that he hath not had a voice to put himself under

rexgator wrote:I posted this question at the end of the Pike & Shotte rules thread but I think it has been lost in the shuffle. So here are my questions.

1. What is the "assumed" board size in P&S if you are using 28mm figures? I am most likely limited to 6x4 and as much as I love the looks of the 28mm figures I am not going to be happy if the figure/ground scale distortion is too extreme.

2. What is the "standard" army size people are aiming to field. 3 battalia per side (assuming 3-4 units per battalia)?

Thanks, I am intrigued by P&S but I have zero practical experience with this era nor much meaningful understanding do the history or tactics as well. So I am really looking forward to any feedback from people who have demoed or play tested the rules and/or people who have experience gaming this period in general.

Rexgator, My club, The Mailed Fist did Edgehill at Phalanx 2012. We used a 12 foot by 6 foot table. Parliament forces were 12 foot regiments (each of approx 30-40 figs) in 3 brigades and 4 large bodies of horse (approx 150 figs total) with similar sized royalist forces. The table size worked well and was not overcrowded (see 'Cavendish's' piccies on this forum - Edgehill at Phalanx) but we have played quite enjoyable games on a 6x4 table with approx 6-8 regts :)

Cheers W-D
