A Heroic Postman braved the weather.....

Postby Parus Ater » Tue Apr 03, 2012 9:29 am

....and gave me a box with a Warlord sticker. What wonders are within?

I'll give you a clue, there's twenty-five of them, they're chewing gum and they're thinking about our women folk.

And they're stunning, Steve. I'm looking at the weapon sprues and you have to cross your eyes and get close to see any mould lines. I'll spend the afternoon putting these together.

I'm on holiday today so I must confess to not being up yet so I've been unable to suppress my excitement at this set and built one. Garand isn't glued just a bit of blu-tack...

I'm a bit ahead of myself on this since I want to use Fenris Games resin bases and I need to stock up on Coat d'Arms paints since I won't be using GW because of the new confusing system.

Anyway, mini review - Looking at them as a plastic set the mould lines are as minuscule as they can be, never seen them so small. The parts are neatly laid out and logical, casting quality is incredible. The sheet that comes with he set is also very good at explaining things.

I'm amazed at Warlord have managed on these, US web isn't at all simple and they've managed to respect the proportions while getting a pleasant aesthetic. Accuracy wise the kit is superb, they did a good job in fudging the lines between the suspender system and the M-1928 haversack and the pistol and the BAR/Rifle belts so they work perfectly as either. You can use the now indispensable Liquid Green Stuff to fill the gromits on the pistol belts gap to make it more accurate for a rifle belt centre.

Plaing around with this one I've thought of a number of ideas for conversions and I'm loving all the spare parts that would be excellent for vehicle stowage. All in all, wondeful set.

Just for my own interest, do you have any comments on the shape of the helmets Parus? They look a bit off in some of the pics of painted examples. I'm hoping it's just the lighting or something. The unpainted one in your pics looks ok.

I know what you mean but the ones on the sprue look good with the right ball like dome and fluted rim. A lot of sculptors have used post war lids and end up with the cut away neck at the back but these don't. I'm a bit of a kit Nazi and these are scratching my itch .

I've made another, in the form of a pointing kneeling bazooka man. Working with them is pretty easy since belt equipment hangs below the bottom of the belt so cutting carlisle pouches and canteens off the cartridge belt is easy.
