Nothing to do with the price or a shortage, it's all to do with fuel delivery drivers saying they are in talks to improve working conditions ... and they didn't rule out strikes. Now last time we had strikes from fuel delivery drivers there were queues for miles at each service station because they were of course running low, which made everyone panic and try to make sure their tank was continually full, which of course made the stations run low etc..etc..
This time round it probably would've been okay without some rather unwise governmental advice to top up your tank if you can and even, from one eejit, to store jerry cans of fuel at home (in complete opposition to existing safety advice) and of course some people have been killing each other to get to the pumps. It's one of those situations, like a run on the bank, where there doesn't have to be a problem, there just has to be the whispered rumour of a problem and then the problem will of course appear.
Anyway, the drivers have said they won't be striking (any time soon) after all, so hopefully this self-fulfilling prophecy will disappear on its own.
