New Rules from Warwick Kinrade and North Star

Postby Big Al » Thu Mar 29, 2012 6:03 pm

These are a skirmish set from Warwick Kinrade who wrote WH's Kampfgruppe Normandy and are called (original) Normandy Firefight. Available for £10 from North Star.

I saw about these in WI this month, are they designed for 54mm figures?

Supposedly yes, they are for 54mm - but it does apparently include conversion for 28's :D

Mike,

Would you be willIng to post a few facts from the article?

Thinking about ordering them and I won't have my WI until next week.

It's a skirmish game of 'hunt the sniper' 4 GI's vs 3 Germans. played on a 4x4 board (with 54mm models) the sides are mostly riflemen, each with a junior officer with an smg. As you can guess with that few models it seems very detailed, based on a d100 system, and from the bits of explaination in the text of the article it seemed a bit like GW's inquisitor system. e.g. you have a base % to hit which is modified by your stance and actions and your enemies speed of movement, but seems quite maths heavy - which is fine, but means you probably wouldn't want to play the game at more than 5 models a side.

Apparently while called 'Firefight Normandy' it has rules in for most WW2 small arms, so you could play whatever theatre you fancied, I guess he's chosen Normandy because you'd want quite a lot of terrain on the board to stop one player just slaughtering the other, but it'd probably be suitable for jungle warfare in Burma, and small fireteams clearing bits of villages anywhere in the world!

While i know very little about ww2, and it isn't really my period i'd be tempted to get it for a tenner, and to play it at 28mm, if only because one box of troops would probably give me enough for a whole army!

My copy arrived - at first glance they look to be a very quick set of rules. One very good point I spotted is that you use d100 for hit, then reverse the digits for hit location - one roll does two jobs :) And there is the added bonus that you don't need to paint a ton of figures to use them.
