Raupenhelm conversion WIP

Postby grant » Fri Mar 23, 2012 4:22 am

So I wanted some Baden Dragoons. Shouldn't be too hard ( :P ) based on the advice of the Comte:
Comte Michel wrote:The raupenhelm as worn by Bavarians etc is quite tall. You might get close by starting with the French carabinier helmet, cutting off the metal crest then re-attaching the caterpillar and trimming the 'tail' end to fit. You would have to smooth off the front part of the helmet and attach a small oval plate and chains - you can see them clearly in your photo of the Baden dragoon.

Assuming that the Baden helmets are the same as the Bavarians, just above the peak there is a horizontal metal band bearing the regimental name (I think, I can check my references later). You can see the band in your pic.

Well, here's my WIP. Not going to be putting any real sculptors out of business. Managed to move the caterpillar down. Couldn't get it more forward. Added chains, an oval plate, and a suspicious looking side plume. Only 9 more to go? ? ?

Well, managed to get the whole unit ready to be painted! This is, from the left, the officer (larger plume), standard, bugler, and a trooper; with the rest of the regiment in behind. I am reasonably happy with the way they turned out. They will pass muster! And I found a flag on warflag, so I am pretty much ready to paint.
