Then, of course, there is the new range from Army Painter. I seem to remember Warlord stocking their starter sets. ;)

@Sirius- An actual swatch book? Wow that would be useful! 8-) I am guessing that my local stockist does not have one though as he always gives me a leaflet of the swatches when I am trying to choose colours. Maybe I will mention it when I next go in :) Thanks for the info though.

Don't forget if you use primarily the GW range and start having difficulties in obtaining certain colours then just switch to the Vallejo Game range which is basically a copy of the GW range. I havn't looked closer enough to see if they do the equivalent of the foundation colours .

The only reason I have kept buying GW paints is sheer convenience. I am familiar with the names and have been using them since they first appeared on the market, so I am used to thinking along the lines of 'Scorched Brown' instead of 'Burnt Umber'. It's lazy really, but easier to nip in to the GW store as I'm passing and swipe a pot I'm running low on.

I don't think their paints are exceptional quality (they're fine though) and they're certainly not the best value (they're fine though) but they are easy and I buy on that basis. By changing the names they throw away a generation of brand recognition and force painters to relearn their whole palette. No thanks, for me it's easier to get more familiar with the Vallejos (who I think are very good quality and value for money) so I can know which one to buy when I run low. I use plenty of Vallejos already so it won't be a major shift for me. I will also be dipping my toe into Army Painter at some point.

GW have tried to fix something that ain't broke and made it inconvenient for me to keep buying from them. I won't be stopping my GW visits in a fit of pique, as a moral stand or out of outraged industrial action, I will be doing it because I'm a customer and there is no reason for me to buy from them now, no paint product they stock I can't get cheaper elsewhere at a comparable or superior quality.

Correct. The Vallejo Game Colour range is directly equivalent - and they have foundations, called "heavy" paints.

Actually 3 - one for each of Model Colour, Model Air and the Game Colour ranges. Just checked that they are still available, and they are - CC970 for Model Colour, CC 971 for Model Air and CC972 for Game Colour. (Maelstrom has stock... ;-) )

I'm not fussed really - I kicked the GW habit quite a while ago... Round about when 'ordinary' blisters went up to seven quid - and I bought very, very, few when they were six.

As for paint, there are only four colours I use very regularly: Bestial Brown, Mithril Silver, Chainmail and Boltgun Metal. I sometimes use Dark Angels Green and Midnight Blue - most often as highlights over black, to ring the changes from always highlighting with charcoal grey. I can find replacements for all those in Vallejo's Game Color (sic) range...

That'll be because they have a mugshot of you in every store. When you enter and buy a pot of paint more than once, they take it as time to change the range! :) Not trying to make you paranoid or anything

Not meaning to be rude, but it does appear to be slightly childish.

I have taken offence, The only thing they might be doubling are the prices..the only childish thing here is GW customer base,it is easy for them to exploit people who can't think for themselves, my advice would be to wake from your slumber.
i used to Love GW, but love turns to hate when you are just a cash cow to them......

If you can't see what they are doing, carry on pal, keep taking your pocket money in there, to the gripper stebson that is warhammer.....

Oh some more advice, read the thread, I don't want GW apologists commenting on this thread I asked for advice on paint, if you can't bring anything to the thread then perhaps you shouldn't comment.

Going from approx 70 paints to 140+ isn't doubling? If you think I'm a GW apologist think again, I haven't bought any figs from them for 20+ years, the comment about pocket money IS just childish but only to be expected from the ABGW brigade (I haven't had pocket money for about 40 years). Last time I looked this was a forum for discussion, not just post if you agree with my opinion.

GW have changed the names/paint range before, maybe you lot are too young to have been around at the time.

Whatever, carry on troll, read the thread, where does it say insult the O.P. and everyone who offers advice?
Then go pester someone else.
There was a time when you could come on here for nice little chats and show pictures of your figures, now, well it ends in locked threads and having to deal with idiots like yourself.
I for one and getting a little sick of taking it on the chin and having to smile back.
