Just wondering if Anyone has boughtt a copy of the Latrest Wargames Soldiers and Strategy Magazine?

Our very own "Phil" has done an article in it on the Army Painter Dip. Very interesting read of which I share many of his views ;)

Not much WW2 in it which isn't a bad thing as it has given me a welcomed break away from tanks

Great article, I had no idea it was this Phil. I am an Army Painter advocate, Phil makes some great arguments in the article, and of course shows off his fantastic minis.

Yes hes obviously been reading our threads !

In all seriousness he is a briilliant painter and his painting has settled many arguments in my favour with others over this product. ;)
He does post also on the Guild Forum as well and that City wall he is building has to be seen to be believed. I don't think he has posted a thread with it on here yet. :D

I am quite sure its the same Phil ! Can't be too many Phils that are nuts on Romans surely!

Guilty as charged, m'Lud! ;)

Yes, it's me. Guy (the editor of WS&S) is an old mate, so he twisted my arm to write the odd article. They've published two so far (both on t'dip - in #57 and #59), there are another one or two waiting, and I'm just starting work on another.

I haven't posted about the walls here, because I've been associating them, in my mind, with my third century project, which uses figures from A&A, Wargames Design Studio and Aventine Miniatores, rather than EIR from Warlord... But there's no reason why I couldn't use them for Romans from the earlier era... Other than the lack of opponents in the East skilled in siege-craft (neither Jews nor Parthians seem to have gone in for it much) before the Sassanids.

Edit: Carvel2 asked me for a link - here's the first:
http://web.me.com/philhendry/Phil_Wargaming_Website/my_blog/dura---the-beginnings.html If you scroll forward through my blog, the next few entries are mostly about my walls and their development. I'm taking a break to work on some gladiators at the moment - I'll get back to the walls and get them painted sometime soon.

Cheers,
Phil

I had gotten to your blog somehow, from somewhere, once before and then, like a fool, didn't bookmark it and couldn't find my way back. That wall has been haunting my dreams ever since. Thanks for providing the link.

There are some fantastic pictures of it in Phil's thread on the Guild Forum ;) If I could put a link in I would do!

Just been sent the official E Mail showing the GW new paint range. Does look like a fantastic range and is going to be good for beginners as it will show them the priciples of Shading and Highlighting at a very much earlier stage. I am thinking positive here and think this will be a worthy addition .I don't know how long they will keep the entire range together as GW tend to quickley rationalise their paint range. I remember buying a pot of Terracota coloured paint once and as quickley as it was introduced it was deleted the following year.

First of all I am not sure necromancy is a breech of the Forum rules . I might just get a ban :? I had to ressurect this thread from page 8!

For Dark Ages fans and Saga, it looks like the long awaited plastic Norman Infantry by Conquest are due out. They have also got some new box art for the cavalry.

I have been thinking about this as it wasn't that long ago , just before Conquest came on the scene that I priced up a 5000 Wab Norman army and it came to just over £600.00 . I reckon with these new infantry plus the existing plastic cavalry this size of army would now cost less than a third . Just goes to show that in the historicals plasticising armies really saves money . :D
