DIY paint case

Postby 14th Brooklyn » Mon Mar 19, 2012 2:47 pm

Build myself a custom paint case over the past week. Pictures and info on my blog:

And a preview:

Enjoy,

That thing is fantastic. What a great idea. You could definitely sell those commercially.

THX!

I have to admit, I actually thought about selling these comercially, but then I guess I would have to charge people around 140 EUR for materials and time, and I am not sure if people are still willing appreciate something hand made enough. :?

For a rolling paint case? If there are options for Vallejo, gw, you know common pot holes inside, people will buy these kinds of things. I bought three or four of the Warlord racks and then adjusted them to fit my table.

Painters like gadgets that work! I bet that if you went to a commercial cabinet shop, you could maximize the materials cut, basically ikea-ize it.

I think they would sell also.

But for me I would need to have a Mahogony finish so I could convince Mrs W that it is a piece of furniture!

You do realise that now you've posted it, Warlord might just nick the idea and produce one that would utilise their Paint Pot stands for their Workstations and produce something similar? ;)

Do you think they'll pick up a hint like that or was it too subtle?

THX guys.

If Warlord wants to copy it... They just need to pay royalties! ;)

Oh Cutouts for Vallejo would not be a problem... I simply had no need for them.

Although in the future I would cut it all myself (need a tablesaw anyway, now my better half has decided I shall build a new kitchen table instead of us buying one). I had ewrything cut at the local DIY store which created two problems. For one the hight of the drawers is less then they are allowed to cut (health and safty). The other thing is they have a tollerance of 1mm... Might not sound like much, but it resulted in a good deal of sanding. I know I can cut them with a 0mm tolerance.

Cheers,

Burkhard

Just think of all those laser cut MDF companies out there...get it flat packed as a kit and sell it....you have all the measurements!...if not sell the pattern!

Thats a really nice job.
I like the idea of using old film pots for paint stands. I might have to nick that.
