Try also looking for woodland scenics forest kits. You get a tub of hob-e-tac, the tree armatures and the foliage in one pack for about £15-£18 depending on the tree type and size.

I have a load of WS tree armatures, I was trying to decide what glue to use when someone mentioned Hob-E-Tac was good

They are made by Scene Scapes. They do look a touch fragile but for the context of how much use they will get I thought the prettiness was worth the risk They make my other trees look like toilet brushes

Another alternative way to build trees is to buy thoses "Forest in a box" sets from model rail stockists. I do have one of these but not yet used it. Its is some sort of Icelandic plant that has been dried out and has many little branches which can be cut and easily replicate a tree . I am pretty sure that these will be more delicate which isn't a problem for our home use as I am sure that we look after our own scenery much beter than say that held by a club.

Judging from your buildings making your own trees should be no problem carvel.

Some soft wire , laid out in loops of different length and twisted together give a nice trunk. Cut the loop ends open and you have branches. Do the same at the other end but drill some together for roots. Put some wood filler on the wire for a more tree like surface. Twist some more wire to the ´branches and add the usual green stuff .

I wanted some for my 4 cm AWI and the available ready ones are expensive. I wanted some for spring with less foliage and some with more for summer. Some samples:



I'm sure you can do better but for my gaming needs they are good enough . At less than 10 € for a small wood they are the bargain option.

I've just based my luxury trees with polyfilla and sprayed black ready for proper painting : )
Arranged for the local wood yard to cut me some hexagons to do extra foliage on...so may well give your method a go. They look good!
