Looking for maps for Leipzig scenarios

Postby grant » Fri Mar 16, 2012 1:58 am

My French (and maybe Austrians someday) are based on Leipzig, so I am looking to build a set of scenarios that would work for the battle - given the scale of the fight, I think it could be broken down into more manageable pieces and sub-battles.

What I haven't been able to find has been any maps or decent inspirational photos of the terrain. Anyone have some thoughts?

If it's still available Osprey Wargames Series 2 - The Campaign of Leipzig 1813 has some very nice maps. There are some in F L Petre, Napoleon's Last Campaign in Germany 1813, but they are a bit harder to read.

Osprey Wargames 2 on Leipzig has realy many maps. But they show only rudimentary terrain features. A lot of streets are missing as are most of the terrain features like mounds and hills.

The military history and atlas of the Napoleonic wars by Esposito and Elting is a little better, but still not enough for a correct view.

In 2013 there will be a new Panorama of the battle by Yadegar Asisi , in connection with an exhibition about the 200 year jubilee. 19. Oktober 1813 around 11 Uhr as seen from the roof of the Thomaskirche . This will surely give you a lot of "input".

The following link goes to a gaming page about Leipzig 1813 , some good photographs and a panorama map.

Thanks IO, that's the kind of stuff I am looking for.

I am hoping to build a set of scenarios - a campaign even - for Black Powder. It will help me focus my collecting and buying! (probably not, but it's a nice thought ... :lol:)

Good few maps available here;

Nafziger's books normally have good maps but I don't have the Leipzig volume just the previous 2.
