does anyone know a company, preferably an american distributor that has 25-30mm sail ships from this era or something maybe suitable with light conversion? was looking at old glorys site and they have some nice affordable ships, but not quite keen enough on ships to know whats what. here is glorys link - http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/categories.asp?cat=17. im going to do more research, just wondering if maybe you guys may have an idea. oh and this will be for display so fragile parts are acceptable. thx again everyone! im really hoping not to have to scratch build lol, that will take me forever and im not confident in my scratch build abilities.

lol i hear you friend, im thinking of saving up for a larger one, but in the mean time ive decided to just build a deck raised up a few inches and put some boarding and rails and such so its not just a plain old deck if that makes sense. been researching and i think prince rupert was a naval man of sorts in the early tyw. trying to dig deeper on that and maybe theme it around him. any info from you guys would be great!

Old Glory models are not bad. I build a lot of the 1/300 Napoleonic ships and the result is nice. But had to add a lot of details. In some sets parts had been missing, my Santissima came without bowsprit and two upper mast had been missing too. Similar problems with others . (I build the missing parts myself, the kind British importer had done enough with replacing a model that was totally wrong, Armada vessel instead of HMS Victory...)
The 28mm are nice models and for a gaming model a very good base. The 2 deck buccaneer is not so expensive if you calculate the price of the guns and other parts needed for a scratchbuild one.
yeah was thinking that buccaneer one myself, seems a decent value. though maybe not for my ecw but for my cutlass! privateers. yet it could still be used as a proxy just for fun on the board instead of strictly display

Regarding Prince Rupert, I don't think he was involved in naval engagements in the TYW, but he became an admiral of some repute after the first ECW. Naval battles in the 17th century are pretty poorly reported (excepting pirates in the caribbean of course!) even though there are some amazing stories from this period. The Wasa was the Mary Rose of Sweden.
yeah i was mistaken about it being Prince rupert, it was another rupert, cant remember off the top of my head.

Prinz Ruprecht von der Pfalz, the later Rupert, got an offer by Arundel to command a naval expedition in TYW times, 1636. But that never happened, he returned to the continent 1637 and was at the siege of Breda. He only fought on land in TYW. So you are absolutely right. His naval times are from the post Naseby time, he started a campaign of privateering against the English / Parliament merchant shipping. In Anglo-Dutch wars he served as an admiral on sea.
