Small battles...

Postby Augustus_Gaius » Sat Feb 04, 2012 10:06 pm

Has anyone played HC with really small forces, if so how enjoyable was the game and did you change anything, e.g. movement speed? If you have post up and share your thoughts on the topic please :D

the reason i ask is because in WI jan 2012 there is a small skirmish using black powder (i'm talking 3/4 units a site here) so i was wondering if the same idea could be used effectively in HC, the only problem i can think of is that it would be really really quick, and i generally enjoy a longer game more

in the black powder report they recommend changing movement to Cm, but I believe im right in thinking movements are something like 12inches in BP normally, adding to the fact HC is mostly hand to hand based i can't help but think doing that would just prolong the action. My thoughts would, off the top of my head be to increase morale and stamina so all units can last longer, maybe even go as far to scale the game up to 1 morale to 1 man, although Thats a bit extreme :L anyway what are peoples thoughts on this? :D

HC is based on Black Powder and yes, there are some differences. You're right that movement in BP is 12" for foot. Now you could still convert to cm and it shouldn't be a problem.
What you could try is ignoring the Shattered condition in combat and just take break tests. Another thing you could try is reducing the command ratings of the commanders. This in turn would reduce the number of multiple moves you would get for low command rolls. This would certainly slow the game down.

Nice report, and nice to see all those models fighting it out on the table top, they look great. Keep it coming.
