Witchfinder General - anyone playing it?

Postby grant » Sat Nov 19, 2011 4:44 am

Just ordered it linky for rules tonight, along with a book that looks promising from my local online bookstore Witchfinders: a Seventeenth Century Tragedy

I am hoping to get some use out of my languishing collection of ECW minis while I wait for the WG rules to come out. Also, I have a large Vampire Counts collection, so can use some of the stuff there, hopefully.
Take car. Go to Mum's. Kill Phil - "Sorry." - grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?

I've got the rules and started putting a force together. I haven't got any ECW minis, but have a few of the old Westwind figures from Vampire Wars, which will do, as well as a couple of Heresy Werewolves and their Man Bat! I have a number of Tor Gaming's Relics figures which will do as Barguests and Noctelingers (Ghouls).

I like the rules. They are well laid out and clear. There is good support on their website forum too. Enjoy!!

Thanks Al, really looking forward to this. I have enough spare stuff to build up I think.

I received the rules last week end along with the Wulfen SS pack, I'm going to use the werewolf in the Witchfinder games after I've altered him a bit to fit the period, I've plenty of ECW stuff and zombies, Vamp's, Skeletons etc. and currently planning a game for next saturday with a few guys from our group to see how they play out. I need to print off the free counters sheet from the website as well. I can't wait to get my teeth into this. Actually I started painting the werewolf last night and am planning to finish it tonight, if I can I'll get some pics up.

From looking at their forum, it sounds like they have made a quite nice set of rules, everyone seems to be really impressed with the production costs, the overall value, and how easy it is to play. Sounds abou perfect!

I had a game of this the other week and I must say it was a most enjoyable afternoon.

Undave recommends this book :D

I bought the book earlier this month. The mix of historical and fantasy really appeals to me, although with everything else I am trying to get through at the moment I haven't read them totally yet - only really had a good few flicks through them.

Ah-ha, I'm glad this thread showed up again, (I couldn't find it), I also played this for first time, finally, last week end and it was a fantastic romp, just two of us tested it out with a handfull of buff coated witchfinders Vs a handfull of zombies (using the noctilinger stats), a vamp and a werewolf (WG very own wulfen ss slightly modified for the period), oh and a GW cairn wraith playing the part of death (just something we added for fun, it couldn't be killed and had a random move distance and direction per go, base to base contact meant instant death!!) And it was most enjoyable and I must say the witchfinders did very well until they came up against the Werewolf, which, through better stats and some lucky rolls of the dice wiped the floor with them. Can't wait to do this again :D
