A Model Soldier Conundrum

I was thinking about this the other day .

Just think of all the figures that are manufactured in a year by every single manufacturer be it historical or fantasy and lets assume a large proportion of these are sold, the rest being on the store shelf.

Now imagine this say over a ten year period . Lets be honest appart from extreme cases we very rarely consign figures to the dust bin they are normally "recycled" by the way of E Bay and other private sales.

Soooooooooooooo...... Just where are all these figures?!!!! Where are they kept? THere must be millions out there somewhere... :shock:

I imagine a huge proportion of figures in existence are in boxes in lofts somewhere, as people no longer use but can't bear to get rid of them

I have around 5000 ww2 20mm figures in my loft
about 1000 28mm figures in my work room,
My brother has 1000 i have so far painted for him in his loft

Where did all my 1/32nd scal airfix figures go??? i had about 500 of them

....Lost in the sands of time.

So I think Lofts and I.O. are the answers in most cases.

Scientists say that a quarter of the earths mass is made up from insects...I wonder how much is made up from toy soldiers alone???....surely there is a mathmatical formula that can answer this?

My Mum's garden still produces the odd toy soldier every now and then.

My Dad gave all mine away along with all the HO/OO ones but as I'd left them at his house when I moved out 10 years before I can't really complain. Same with a load of books many discontinued etc but they went to the Burma Vets Association so once again no complaints.

I do have a vast leadpile containing figures anywhere up to 30 years old, there are some which I really should sell off but the hassle of sorting through it does not seem worth it. Could just send it in bulk to a 2nd hand dealer but I know there are many things in there that I'll need one day, honest. :roll:

Does all this mean some day assuming all wargaming companies carry on manufacturing and we all keep buying at the same rate that eventually our houses will be full of model soldiers :?:
