I’m thinking of adding a couple of camels to my baggage train ... Foundry do some, but I think they are Bactrians, so I am considering using eBobs (suspiciously similar to the Warlord’s) ...

Ah! Well ... I already have ten of those chaps (picture taken before I added the last two):

and I’m pretty sure that the eBob sculpts were the basis for these:

http://www.ebobminiatures.com/products/animals.htm

so I quite fancy a couple laden with supplies and perhaps one kneeling with a dismounted auxiliary ...

But I must finish the oxen first ... and that half painted century of legionaries ... and the primed century of archers ... and the primed command group ... I’m looking forward to unpacking when I move :)

Cheers
Paul

I like Camels. Fried. Loud, smelling and with a ... character.

Well, the research about camels in the army train is nothing new. Junckelmann mentioned the Northern European camp findings in 1990 in his Reiter Roms Vol I and that was an old story then.
Sueton Nero 11 tell us about the use of camels in the games. Plinius say the meat is good for medical use. But it was not eaten normally( Curt. 8.4.19)
Tac. ann 15.12 tell about the Dromedarii. Herodian 4.15.2 also tell about these. Notitia dign name 3 units in the Thebais. ala III Maximiliana, II Herculia, ala I Valeria :ugeek: ;)
