Hmm, I would like some more metal SS miniatures, My Paratroops and Guards armoured need targets.

I bought the Bold action SS for the simple reason that they are metal ground troops. I would have prefered Wehrmacht troops but dislike the plastic ones. I wish to get some late war Herrestruppen in metal , they would be great. Some Volksgrenadiere?

A staff group with wireless lory, Ambulances for all gaming armies. Dreams. May be 2025 :?:

You can use the metal SS as Heer, though.

Can we have some really early war plastic BEf and Germans... by really early I mean 1914-18.... ;)

Sorry I know way of thread really but you have to try.. and with the current buzz around war horse and the great war anniversary just round the corner in 2014 now would be a good time...

@Parus... Could you use the plastic Heer as SS though?

Yes. There was no uniform differences between the SS and Heer, other than lining which you won't see on a figure. Camo smocks were far more abundant in the SS, though but they were near identical in pattern to the Heer splinter ones. The SS helmet cover was a bit different, though as it had metal clips on the outside while the Heer ones were a bit variable and mostly* attacked by draw string but thanks to the BA Head Swap thing (sorry Paul, can't remember the name) Wool tunic differences were insignia, SS didn't have the eagle on the right chest but on the left arm, just remove on BA plastics. Same belts, same webbing, same weapons, same boots.

Sure, some units got that cut of camo dress. Just change the rank signs. But using SS makes it far easier to wish my British to win.
Most Wehrmacht Infantrymen had to fight with Divisional made local camo stuff or the ordinary uniform. In 1944 many Heeressoldaten wore the groundsheet poncho as replacement for camo drees.
Some metal miniatures in the late 1944 Battle dress like uniform would be great additions. And some less heroic. Bullet proof thickness spectacle wearers and similar cannon fodder.

I take it you mean the zeltbahn? The tent quarter has a slot cut in the middle, wearing it as a poncho was it's function and was actually superior to the camo smocks in many ways since it covers your kit and makes a tent at night. The zelt wasn't a replacement for camo dress, it was camo dress.
The vast majority of SS only had wool uniform as well and no smock so it's no biggy and they also had to carry the Zeltbahn.

Yes, the German name was Zeltbahn 31 and 34. It made a medium quality tent and was restrictive in fight. Hanging wide around the arms and getting entangled with every branch. Most wore the Koppel on the outside to get access to the amo pouches. And to keep it closer to the body. Like most impregnated tent cloth only rainproof if not touched. Not ideal for a Poncho. But cheap and light, important for the footsore German infantry lacking transport.

I would love to have some miniatures in this dress for gaming.

A forward observer group with equpment would be nice too. Same with the British. And a range taker for the Vickers would be great. Not to forget some German WW II troops with the old 08/15 HMG. Many units intended for static defence had to use it .

I've used one and found them to be very rainproof, not quite up to the standards of a US Raincoat but enough. Not a groundsheet now, though? So what book do you run to find to update your info this time? ;)

Personal experience. A rainy day as guest with the Swiss army. Very similar items. They gave us each one as rain cover. Better than nothing but I was glad to have a big umbrella. Dressed up for a historians conference, not a military camping trip.

And good that you correct that no English mother tongue one. Should have used :?: for Groundsheet, not intending to use the German one in a English forum. But was too lazy to search in a book for that english word in the moment writing it. But obviously you knew anyway what was meant.
