The Brownest of all Noses.

Postby Cubster » Sat Feb 18, 2012 12:16 pm

I've come to the conclusion that Warlord kind of rocks and is the template for any new business wanting to follow the ideal model in this genre.

How long have they been around? A couple of years?

Already, as well as being one of the front runnners in the industry, they have also gradually expanded their ranges, developing some in house, carefully selecting others from exisiting companies, without moving far from what seems to be their core values and market. Sure, there are a few eccentricities (Sodapop? SRSLY?) but that's part and parcel of keeping an eclectic flavour and not being pigeon-holed.

What prompted this disgraceful thread of crawling was a couple of things. First, I'm having a hell of a time with another company trying to complete an order to my satisfaction that I made back in mid December. I've had to chase them every single step of the way to correct errors they have made and, although the responses I received have been courteous, helpful and prompt, the fact is the errors were simple and shouldn't have been made in the first place. This company has made six separate mistakes and it still isn't completely resolved. This on an order comprising four separate items.

Next time I'm not going to buy Bolt Action anywhere but Warlord, because now I'm stuck with a Para Howitzer (I was offered the choice of returning it and claiming back the postage or buying it at a reduced price; I bought it not through a desire to own the thing, but because it seemed the simplest way of finishing the nightmare process of chasing around after my order) I don't really want and am waiting on the Para Mortar I ordered. Frankly I was a little disappointed that the company didn't tell me to keep the Howitzer since it was their error in the first place and after more than two months of being messed around I felt some compensation was appropriate. I know for a fact that had my order been with Warlord it would all have been dealt with so much quicker and easier, certainly well worth the extra few pence it would have cost me.

Next, when reading this month's W.I. I noticed a Dettingen battle report where the gamers had chosen to use ... yes, Blackpowder as their gaming system. In a couple of years this newbie game has tip-toed into a hobby awash with myriad musket rulesets and has established itself as one of the, if not the absolute, favourite system in the hobby. I had my doubts about its success because it seemed so different to the Warhammer-style games I was familiar with, or the statistically complex rule systems that others seemed to enjoy so much, but you can't argue with results and I was dead wrong. I salute thee.

Well, with the unmistakeable aroma of lower intestine fresh in my nostrils I leave it here and congratulate the Warlord team on their ongoing success.

I think for Blackpowder the fact you can find it on Amazon is a good thing, especially at the price it's at. Don't get me wrong the Big Wullie figure and the should-be-knighted Mr P's mark is worth the price difference but for someone chancing upon it it's more likely and not that expensive.

I also love Warlord to bits.

That is a nasty picture!

But other than that, I totally agree with the sentiments of the OP. I just can't wait for the ECW rules, I think the field for a good BP style of pike and shot rules is wide open... Not to mention the BA rules on the horizon!

Well said sir!! :D

However, I have to wonder what kinds of sites you surf to get that kind of picture..... :?

Since the picture has generated such interest I can now reveal it is fact a secret North Korean project for dog-operated submarines. Here the skipper is learning how to operate a periscope.

All I can say to that is I'm glad I don't work in Korean submarines. :D
I'd hate to see how they train to load and fire torpedos!
