Its worse than that he's dead Jim....

Postby Colonel White » Wed Feb 15, 2012 1:15 pm

Well not quite!!. After all the rumours and speculation surrounding WH they release a new rule book!

Yes it Richtofen's Flying Circus. A first World war aviation wargaming book . The book is in soft cover and contains 80 pages. I presume colour but nothing in the decription to say so. At £18.00 it won't break the bank and can easily be squeezed into most peoples heavy schedules as a side project. If you like aviation combat then I think it is certanly worth a look ;)

Am I tempted? Well yes . Trying to resist but I may purchase it later in the year. I think the aircraft themselves will be a colourful addition to a display cabinet. ;)

I enjoy Wings of War, now Wings of Glory, too much and cannot see myself moving from that anytime soon. I won't be buying it, I'm afraid because I have so much invested in WoW. With Wings of Glory being released soon as well as Blue Max being re-released ( I have the original of that too) I can see a resurgence into aerial combat, but can't see this doing a lot, to be honest.

I agree Al . Like naval wargaming I think its always going to have a minority following. I don't think WH are into large volume sales when it comes to rulebooks, As Zed used to say( what's happened to Justin not seen or heard from him for ages?) its not the rulebooks that make sales but the figures. ;)

With regard to Zed, I don't know. The last I heard of him on this forum was when he had that little disagreement with Cubster about the Zulu War. I also used to see him crop up on the Wargames Factory forum, but haven't done for a while now. Hope he's alright! :)

The WW1 aerial book will be based on Aeronautica, I suppose. I don't remember that taking off too well either, although the flight stands were very nice and useful.

I havn't seen him at the club for nearly 8 months although he was always just a satellite member. He was about to do some businesss at the store before Christmas with Brian, as he was touting the idea of stocking some of his transfers, But nothing ever happened becasue he didn't turn up!

Well, that's neat. I still have my old box of Fight in the Skies from TSR, and I have every single item produced for Wings of War (including the balloons, and some gold and silver "prize" planes). WoW is just too good to even contemplate getting a 1:72 system, or even using my existing planes to play the game.

So unfortunately this idea won't be getting off the ground for me. Aeronautica I thought was clunky so if it's based off of that, that's another hole in the system.

No thanks!

Well I will be interested in seeing some reviews first before deciding. No doubt someone will want to do one at some stage. ;)

At end of the day the main significance here is not the rule book per Se but the fact the WH are still producing new rules books after all the speculation and rumours. Nearly eveyone including myself thought that the sale was likely to be a fire sale but this doesn't appear to be the case. The mystery is why did WH have the sale bearing in mind they don't produce any figs for the rules . :?:
Things don't quite stack up here :?: :?:

Was the reason something simple like too much stock hanging around so "lets get shut of some"?

I am definitely interested.
Their books are usually a visual treat and I always wanted to try WWI aerial combat anyways.
Think I buy it at some stage.

Cheers

There is a 2 page download rules summary available. At first glimpse it looks very much like some other WW I air rules I checked.
The old problem with all miniature plane rules is the "flying". There are many sytems to represent that. At Salute I saw elaborate costructions to bring that into view on the table. Warhammer did not invent Antigrav so....

Well, WW I planes look great, I love painting them and I love gaming with them.
