Films

Postby Morsleib » Tue Feb 14, 2012 8:53 am

Apart from Enemy at the Gates, can anyone suggest any good (or fairly good) WW2 films involving Russia?

Russian films I've seen include The Star (2002), Fortress of War (2010) and They Fought for their Motherland (1975). I liked the TV series Shtrafbat ("Penal Battalion").

Ok, it is from a German point of view, but you have to have seen Cross of Iron? If not, I recommend it.

'Enemy at the Gates'?

Good? If you claim Enemy at the gates a good movie there are dozens. Including the awfull Steiner Iron cross ones.

Entertaining, well. But little more.

And the director was a ........ . The team borrowed an original Kübelwagen and a Blitz. One day he found that a scene needed more booom and he made his special effect group blow up these original vehicles. Without asking the owner!
That poor guy found his vehicles burned out. The director did not understand that a grown up man would cry for some vehicles.

Yes and as with The Star, not many laughs. If you want GRIM these are the ones to watch...

Highly recommended though!
