What is the difference between the Coldstream Guards and the Light Company uniforms worn at Hougoumont?

Shoulder wings , green shako cords and tuft. Officers golden cords and 1803 light infantry pattern sword.

For miniatures, perhaps the Perry Penninsular British would pass for Coldstream Guards, or stick with the late war Shako (sans tuft)?

At Waterloo all companies of the the Coldstream Guards wore the so called "Belgic" shako. Trouser grey but with a small .
A problem are the gaiters, the 2nd Guards wore the Trousers inside, not outside like most other units!
Sergeants of the 2nd Gds wore sashes in Officer style without the stripe most other Regimental Sergeants had.

i think the only British unit you can use Peninsula British (in stovepipe shako) for at Waterloo are the 28th.

The Stove pipe was also worn by the light regiments. 51st, 52nd. And the 71st had a very similar one with Scottish distictions. I converted some, it's easy.

But you are right for the line units, the 28th was the only that kept the Sovepipe in 1815.

Wasn't the 28th also distinctive in that they had a back sphinx plate as well as a front plate? I seem to remember it was a distinction awarded after they fought surrounded at Alexandria.

Correct, I was taking about Line Infantry. We can also, of course, include the 95th who remained in their Peninsula dress.

I'm off base here, but I seem to recall that the 71st didn't wear a stovepipe shako, but had the blue bonnet made into a shako shape?

Yes, no Stovepipe but a very similar shaped thing. So a conversion is easy, just add a toorie at the top, a little cutting and painting the diced band.
In the rainy Waterloo campaign most headdress was covered by oilskin anyway.

And yes, the 28th got that back distiction, still worn by its successor units.
