Bomber Boys

Postby Centurion Dan » Sun Feb 05, 2012 8:04 pm

Just a quick heads up guys - on BBC1 tonight at 9pm theres a program on about RAF Bomber Command presented by Ewan McGregor and his brother Colin who is an RAF pilot.
Should be worth a watch just for the first hand accounts from the surviving members of the bomber crews - and also letting the McGregor brothers take the controls of a Lancaster ................

They had another show, about fighters. It was quite good. Colin takes a Spitfire for a run. Really cool stuff.

Well that was a brilliant 90 minutes - well worth watching! The accounts of the crew were very moving and quite poignant and you really felt for the very young men flying these huge 4 engined Lancasters.

Nice to see it on BBC1 instead of BBC2. The idea and concept was fine but for me it looked severely edited to squeeze it into a single programme. For me it would have been better run as a mini series. Would be nice it they could reunite the 2 Lancasters. I wonder if anyone has thought about doing a conversion from a Shackleton?. There you are a 1:1 scale conversion project. Anyone got a million quid to spare!

I remember watching a James May program where he built a life size supermarine spitfire airfix kit - complete with a James May sized pilot. He got a bunch of school kids to help put it together and it looked absolutely brilliant when finished.

I wonder if it's on display somewhere?
