B.D. does Greeks

Postby Biggus Dickus » Thu Feb 02, 2012 5:19 pm

Oh dear the title sounds like a video nasty ;) .....but seriously i know it might be hard for some of you to accept but I have an Ancient Greek army which is now begging for some attention..........most of it is assembled but not painted.
It will be my main project this year.

Here is a list of the figures in my Fantasy Greek Army.

Immortal Miniatures Hoplites
Wargames factory "Amazons" (they are my daughters)
Crocodile Games Spartans (movie 300 style!)
Tale of war Leonidas...(as above)
Reaper miniatures "Achilles"
reaper miniatures "Socrates"
Bronze age Miniatures " Heracules/Heracles
Wargames factory Numidians Converted with I.M. parts into light infantry and Archers (Corinthian helmets!)
Wargames foundry Alexander and Companion Cavalry
Grand manner "Argo" ship

Just to give you something to look at here is the man mountain that is heracles....

I have started my Movie style, men in pants Spartan's.....I love that Movie...and as a Kid i loved the original "300 Spartans".....yeah it's hollywood, but sometimes you need that.....well I do, if not watch a documentary. ;)

Looking good, BD - he's pretty ... well, Herculaean! :D
This is a project near to my own wish list, though I wasn't planning a "fantasy" army - I had in mind Athenean Empire vs Spartan Alliance vs Theban Hegemony, but these bloomin' Celts keep getting in the way, and then there's the Witchfinder stuff ... so little time, etc, etc, :(
The IM minis are a bit thin on leadership (though I note the appearance of strategoi in Warlord's Greek support packs), so I'd thought that the WF Hoplites (who are a bit meatier) might be good as elites or heroes, 'til Warlord bring out the IM ones. The WF Amazons are a bit ... odd ... but it all sounds great!
What about some of the Foundry Greek Tribes minis - they have a raft of heroes, too, don't they ... ?

Thanks Guys,

Clive, Yes Foundry, they have a lot of nice figures, which may well find their way in but via ebay rather than direct, on account of their laughable postage rates....however the I neglected to mention that next on the list are the fabled Victrix Greek set, really wanting to get a box of those for...it seems like decades now.....i was a small boy when they were first announced......if they don't turn up by April I'm liable to do something else....like foundry.
But we'll see, i have plenty to keep me busy in the meantime.

Carvel......he's quite tall...the next time i have the camera out and a 28mm greek to compare him to you'll see what i mean...but he should be way bigger than the average Athenian .....he's a Demi God!!! ;)

I've noticed lately that some of them have vanished :( One week i was browsing and saw they did a whole host of Trojan heroes (I wanted Aeneas!!!) and then the next week they replaced the pack with one that only contained Hector, Paris and some "Trojan guard"

Maybe Aeneas went off on his mission

P.s Really cool project :p, I think the Pelt on that Heracles mini is absolutely brilliant!

Yeah ....Aneas ....pushed off when the going got tough to rough it with a Carthaginian;then builds a mud hut on a hill after bullying the locals off their own land. Loser! He'd be hauled up bythe EUCJ for that behaviour these days! ;)

Excellent looking Herc...

I am waiting for the Victrix Greeks, that was why I started on ww2, not Greeks.

Thanks Guys hopefully some pictures over the weekend of progress on my Spartans.......

Mike, yes it was a good idea to turn to WW2 while you wait for Victrix Hoplites, you could make an Army for each protagonist while you wait.....What troubles me is, I'm 46 at the moment and i worry that the state pension won't cover the cost of the Greeks when they show up.........should i take out some sort of ISA or just invest in some precious metals? ;)
