New sentry/guards

Postby carvel2 » Sun Jan 29, 2012 1:39 pm

Just ordered 2 packs and a pack of shields with leather covers to add to the bleak atmosphere.
Really excited about these. THey should fit nicely with the cheapskate walls and tower I've built...those Celts will never catch us napping!
Starting to think about colours for cloaks....
White with stained hem line + simple pattern.- striking and simple
Black/charcoal grey for grim dark brooding look.
Red for traditional military , stood at the cross look.
Green to match in with existing 'green cohort'
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????? :?

What have people done with the leather shield covers. Brown with some decoration?

I suppose I need some kind of camp fire too? Or metal basket ?

I haven't got round to ordering these yet, just wondered if, and this is maybe a suggestion / question aimed at the Paul and the rest of the warlord demi gods (never hurts to grovel), if these sentries would look good included with the wooden watch tower instead of the ones currently inc. I still need to get some of these though and I think I might give them praetorian heads?

They do look fantastic. I will be ordering a set this week, along with the Newest ECW clubman and the Dacian command ( Clive, I'm going to pinch your conversion idea).

Carvel, perhaps grey cloaks with a red trim?

Brown makes sense but I have the shields in brown due to leather covers.
Grey sounds cool with red trim...how grey? Any examples?
Makes sense to include them with the watch tower if figures are included .
Hope to get these up as a work in progress by next Friday night : ) depending how the post goes with the order :D

Hi Carvel......Have to have a metal Basket fire...I'm sure i have seen some somewhere...I'll have a look later.

Leather shield cover I reckon would be Tan in colour....I think i have a picture of a reenactors version somewhere too....
Image
Shield cover looks like it has a logo sewn on in a darker leather or other material....so maybe a wild boar!!!

Cloaks, I have read somewhere were a earthy brown....kind of like GW Khemri brown, Officers Red
But of course having said that ;) ................Maybe a flat dull green to go with your Green Cohort...
looking forward to seeing yours done, i will be buying some my self at some point..Like go to the Marine Corps!

Looks like the design on the cover matches the goat-like design on the shield.

Cheers BD..great photo!
I suppose if I go green they could beef up the cohort as a standing line at the back...rather than a whole new colour way.
BUT I do rather like that idea of Mike's with the grey.
Brown is not,on reflection, going to happen. Brown shield , brown cloak :(
Perhaps the grey cloak with a sown on green stripe above the hem line. Lighten the whole model but links it back to an existing unit.

It depends on what sort of brown you decide to use. A lighter, dustier looking brown would work well for cloaks (which is what I'm hopefully aiming for) and maybe a darker brown on the shields.
However, it would be interesting to see what a grey cloak looks like - how dark a grey do you plan on going?
