And yet the monarchy lives to this day.....

Thankfully our (uk) monarchy is neither a reigning one (figureheads only) or a Stuart one!! ;)

Yet it's still there!!!

In reality my family has always been royalist, that is until it started going bad for the crown....

But the house of Hannover has some drops of Stuart blood. Enough to explain a lot. And reign? The so named government became Scottish, like many banks ( the real g....) and companies. Enough to claim a late Stuart victory??
;) ;)

Hmmmm... It does seem like the Bankers have the real victory... but haven't they always. ;)

Lovely box art as usual. Have to say I always love the quality of the Warlord Games packaging, a big plus for me. Any idea when these will be arriving? Will they be out before salute?

I am not going to comment on this, although believe me, I have a witty retort. But I won't comment.

Ah ha! Even the rebels admit to the kitten nailing now :x .

I must admit to be under-whelmed by the historical New Nodel foot. Some of the horse I have a grudging respect for, but I'm struggling to think of the foot being terribly inspirational. I don't see them doing well at Naseby at all - saved by the damned Ironsides etc. Even in the later wars with the Scots they don't seem to be battle winners. I also get the impression that when King Oliver was setting himself up it was the foot regiments that were the dissenters, brought in line by the loyal regiments of horse.

Battle of the Dunes? Good performance there I suppose.

I wonder if the 'elite' New Model has become a bit of a wargamers' myth? I suppose their strength was organisational - they were a national army. I just don't buy the idea that they were somehow a better class of troop, as soon as they put on that venice red coat, as we so often represent them.

The point of the new model army was that it was a single field army, not a collection of regiments lead by competing independent commanders. After parliament passed the self denying ordinance the writing was on the wall. Charles failure to really get a grip on his own commanders and army organisation cost him the war. You are correct initially the foot were a bit shaky, but soon they whole army combined horse, foot and dragoons became a powerful organised fighting machine. Something that hadn't been seen in the UK since the Romans. It was this ability that gave the NMA it's invincibility (let's be honest post 1645 they hardly lost a thing.)

Interestingly many of the more radical elements were in the NMA foot, it is these guys I really admire, they dared to think of a political system that was centuries away. But, whatever their politics, they still marched when and where they were told.
