I just got back from the Wednesday night gaming session at the club. Tried Disposable Heroes Point Blank. Totally new game compared to Disposable Heroes. It's going to take a big learning curve to get to know the new rules better. Just playing with 10 figures a side I reckon 4 x 4 would be a good table size, even smaller 4 x 3 would be alright. It's really hard to kill the enemy. And I found that frustrating. Need to have a few more games.

Hi Paul

What I noticed was that it stays with the premise of command and control, so you lose activation chits when squad members die. The other thing is that pins are lifted in the same way as they are in DH, which means that you get a chance to activate a pinned man. Close combat isn't worth getting involved in either. You generally die before you get near! It does stress the importance of objectives, though. You'll be there all night trying to kill everybody in order to win.

Actually had a game of FOW tonight with a friend, my regular gaming partner. We had a blast! He was new to it. So were are going to give A Bridge Too Far a go, and play the campaign from the book. I already have paras, so I have my work cut out for me ...

Good luck with that, it's hard work! I think that a few historical action films help, like Kelly's Heroes. Recommend them to the kids.

Locally, Rules of Engagement is a game that has tempted a few players away from that space game. Apparently it is comfortably familiar. Wouldnt know for sure though, as I havent played either.

My suggestion is to do a Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan -themed game. I would guess that there are probably more people at your local game store familiar with those than with Kelly's Heroes or A Bridge Too Far or the other classics. If you have the scenery you could stage the beginnings of the attack on Carentan from Ep. 3 of BoB without much trouble. You could even play it one squad per side, or maybe 2 US squads vs. 1 German squad plus an LMG.

If you have the material and are feeling more ambitious, you could do the assault on the gun battery in Ep. 2(?) at Brecourt Manor. That one would be a lot of fun.

Even without a "themed" game, though, you can have a lot of fun just setting up basic scenarios, and you can even re-use a lot of 40k terrain if you want to do a city fight and you aren't too particular about historicity. I've played quite a few rules sets and I have had a lot of fun with Disposable Heroes and Operation Squad (which you can get right here!).

I think at the end of the day we need Hollywood to bring out a new WW2 film with plenty of action and to be a box office hit. Once we have this in our armoury we can then finish off GW!

Lets not forget the Computer game spin offs as well
