rule suggestions

Postby andy_cole » Wed Jan 25, 2012 3:58 am

Hi guys. i,m just trying to decide on a rule set for wwii. so far I've looked at nuts operation squad and rules of engagement and was hoping for some feedback from the community on these systems. I'm not looking for highly competitive rule lawyering more of a narrative story driven game and i have to say a reaction systems sound fun. any thoughts.

Well, the one everyone is waiting for is Bolt Action WWII - from Warlord, written by Alessio Cavatore and Sir Rick Priestley.
An interview was conducted, there is a link to it here and several of us, at great personal misery, listened to the actual interview, and taking massive amounts of painkillers, were able to summarize the key points in the discussion that follows!

If you want something now, I am sure that someone here can point you in a direction.

Me? I'm waiting for Bolt Action WWII, and hoping it comes out sometime around June-July.
Take car. Go to Mum's. Kill Phil - "Sorry." - grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?

Ok, we've been through this loads of times. As Grant says, we're all waiting for Bolt Action. I swear by IronIvan's Disposable Heroes and Coffin For Seven Brothers (or DH or DHC7B for short) which is superb. And now they have released Point Blank for use with single squads that covers a period from the Spanish Civil War up to modern times and is a great game.

You can get by with the DH rulebook, but you will end up getting the army books for each of the nationalities, which has a plethora of vehicles as well as formations and a few scenarios.

It's no secret. I am an Iron Ivan Disposable Heroes fanboy. Actually playing my first game of Point Blank tonight at the club so I will report back my findings.

Agreed. Got plenty of good rules to use. What I have read/heard about the BA rules has not entirely filled me with confidence.

Wait schmait. :D

Depends what you are looking for in a wargame.and of course your budget.

If its Skirmish then the New Bolt Action,Dipsosable Heroes, also news rules in development by Ambush alley ( Force on Force WW2?)

If its medium size battles( or large club battles) for models smaller than 28s ie 20mm then KGN.

If its larger size battles with say 15mm troops then FOW ( or FOW3 when it is released) or Blitzkrieg Commander.

Plenty of choices out there all with their devotees. ;)

I've played Ambush Alley's WW2 rules and still prefer DH. That said, I prefer Force on Force Modern to DH modern :D

No, they are for Osprey but they were released in PDF format a while back. I have them somewhere. There will, no doubt, be some changes. I have most of the rules and supplements in the old PDF format before their association with Osprey.
