Try this site, (if you havent already) it is a great resource.

This looks like a good one!!! Thanks!

I'm still trying to find a web site that list units and uniforms similar to the page The Sealed Knot Society use to have. There are SO many different units listed and my brain is on overload! So many different colors and flags!! At least with our Civil War it was either Blue or Butternut.

Crikey Mr Cubbin, are you ok? you're coming across alll...welll...sensible :D have you been taking those pills again?

I would reccomend the Philip Hawthornwaite book on the ecw - I picked up an allmost new copy - it looks new to me - on amazon for less than half price.

I tend to agree with Mr. Cubbin on this - I've always been told to avoid politics and religion when amongst family and friends!

Paul - are you talking about this one?

http://www.amazon.com/English-Civil-War-1642-1651-Illustrated/dp/0713712635

If so, I started reading it the other day. :D

Yes that's the one Correus - mine has a blue cover. Quite a lot of good info - I'm sure there is a (partial) list of coat colours in there. I like the 'rundown' look of the plates, the King's Lifeguard look like a bunch of rogues - rather than those dashing, gallant, heroic defenders of the realm that we know they are ;)

I would add sex to that list...unless you want to get in serious trouble

I guess that depends on which family and friends you are talking to...
;)

I do agree... Things can get sticky when we stray onto too much politics...
(17th century politics aside ;) )

Back on topic... The war of the three kingdoms by Trevor Royal is fantastic, but you might struggle to get it your side of the pond.

I'm channelling my spirit guide, who just happens to be Robin Day.

Two inviolate laws of congenial conversation, no politics, no religion.

Talking about sex is allowed, but I'll probably be posting it in the History section.

Just to add a bit of balance to this thread ...

Everyone knows that the traitorous rebels in parliament drank blood, ate babies, and nailed tiny kittens to church doors. I'm sure there is something in there about them banning Christmas as well.

The Royalists on the other hand were stout, upright sorts, who were faithful to their Monarch, gawd bless him and may golden winged angels sing him to his rest.

Now that's sorted out, on to religion ... :D
