Spartacus Blood and Sand

Postby Biggus Dickus » Thu Jan 19, 2012 5:49 pm

I just started watching My Chrimbo DVD " Spartacus, Blood and Sand".....................I had no idea The Romans invented Silicone implants ;)

On a serious not only one and half episodes in.......If I was wearing my historians hat I'd clearly take issue with a few things.......The Prolific use of the colour purple.... ;) would be one.......but I'm not watching it as a Historical Documentary of life in Rome......it is after all a TV series, and as Entertainment it is very good....of obvious note is the way they do battle scenes...it's stylised, but an interesting way of showing that being up close and personal with sharp weapons is a messy business.

As for the rest, almost makes me want to have a toga party! ;)

Been watching this too - spent some Christmas money on it and it's got to be a must see series for me. Ok, some things have to be taken with a pinch of salt - the schools guards looking more like Legionaries in lorica segmentata than private guards.
The series is brutal, bloody and very sexy - in more ways than one ;) but ultimately makes you feel like you are right there in the arena with the gladiators. There is also plenty of subterfuge, plots and counter-plots going on - so much so that at times you imagine Hercule Poirot walking in to investigate....................
I won't give away any spoilers, just go and watch it!

I thought I was watching Caligula.
Honestly gave up one episode in. Too "300" for me, didn't like that style of movie.
Take car. Go to Mum's. Kill Phil - "Sorry." - grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?

Today it is fashionable to desecrate, defame and distort the image of the empire romano.Roma was the cradle of civilization and its fall was the end of the civilized world.Who has dreamed for centuries the liberation of Rome on the day when Rome fell was for them the end of the world and the rise of barbarism. When Rome fell the world rejoiced, as in the phrase of the film Ben Hur, but wept and despaired. The image is now in Rome in cinema is false and anti historical.Rome was not only what is represented in the film Rome was also the glory and honor.
