New to ECW

The wicked King was so pro catholic that he sent his brother in law (Protestant) soldiers to fight against the emperor (Popes puppet) .
A real English elite force, collected from prisons and poor houses. Surely all protestants. The neutral peoples on the way got very impressed, in my village (100 % protestant) they behaved very professionally. For TYW standards. A little pillaging, a little fighting, a little drinking and ra.........

To be honest, having done a lot of work on the ECW (my Uni dissertation was on why Parliament won, and I'm currently researching the role of York Minster during the war (I work there)), by and large, the rabble in the ranks were either indifferent to which side they were on, they simply slogged off under the gaze of the squire, who'd told them what to do, or, they were intent to keep the war out of their county, signing neutrality pacts before the war errupted in their town.

That being said, the Popish, Laudian, extravagant, whoring Royalists, were asking for a good hiding.

Oh, and what rules sets are people favouring? I've got hold of a copy of WHECW (having grown up with GW games, it seemed a good place to start). Not too sure about the fella who wrote it tho...

Brilliant vid... Me and my lads love horrible histories, and this is one of the best songs... Shame Charlie 1 wasn't more like his son, if he had stuck to partying and let those who knew how to, rule the country he might have kept his head!
