I was actually thinking of going with the 'Pike & Shotte Starter Battalia' + 'Pike & Shotte Cavalry Wing' and perhaps a cannon or two.

Thoughts, comments?

Any of those are great values. I picked up all my stuff piecemeal; so buy with confidence and joy!

If I were to start over thats the way I would go.

Best of luck

Correus,

Both the starter Battalion and field army are great deals, I would probably advice for ECW going for the Starter Batallia and then add a box of dragoons a general and a saker canon. You could add another box of cavalry and one of the TYW infantry boxes if you want, mor add them in later.

I tend to give my ECW armies more infantry, and in the Batallia you already get 2 units of horse.

Cuirassiers & Harquebusiers are more typical of TYW, though they did get used in ECW. But they are the kind of thing I'd add later. But the field army is pretty nice catch all though.

Not sure if this is of any help, but when I first got started I bought figures enough for one army and painted then in such a way that I could build 2 smaller armies...for instance if I have 4 stands of musketeers I would paint 2 in say red coats and 2 in blew (blue). In pre new model army days both sides looked similar so you can get away with this. You can then assemble your colour bearers ( is that what they are called in this period?) with detatchable flags that slip on and off the poles so you can interchange colours to suit Royalist or Parliamnet giving you 2 small armies with which to battle and not so large a hole in your coin purse. When the time comes that you want to paint the second army you will be rested up and ready to paint a whole army.

Anyway, like I was saying that worked for me.

As you know I have built my ECW armies up in the same way, both sides at once, the only difference I would add is that I don't do changeable flags, I just do extra ensign figures! (but I like the look of a couple of ensigns per regiment anyway).

Hope the post man brings you good news soon.

Hello All

I'm just starting a Parliamentarian army, and was wondering if anybody could help me out with a couple of things;
First, does anybody know what Cromwell's Ironsides Cornet looks like? And a vague idea of the colour of their sashes? All I can seem to find is his standard when he was Lord Protector, nice, but not handy for an Eastern Association Army... Secondly, am I right in thinking that the Earl Of Manchester's Regiment of Foote wore a dark green coat? God help me, but I hate painting red after years of painting WHFB Khorne....

So far, I've got Cromwell & his Ironsides (sans cornet), John Lilburne's Regiment of Foote (resplendant in Purple coats), plus an unpainted Regiment of Foote (to be Manchesters') and an unpainted Firelock Company.

Many Thanks

Hi Adam welcome to the boards...

Glad to see you are playing a for the right side, be warned there are a fair few on here who support the tyrant and his wicked advisors! ;) :)

Good choice of units, yes Manchesters foot were green coate, with red cuff and lining, as we're Samuel Jones regiment also in green.

Not sure abou the Ironsides sashes or cornet though.

Be great to see a few photos as the develop. :D
