The cohort commanders have all reported. Our loses are non. The cavalry have lost a third of their number and the commander is badly shaken. He blames himself but how was he to know what he was poking his lance into?
The auxillieries are all lost...the burning fires bare testament to that. After we pushed out of the gates (that was a debacle that needs addressing) the heathens evaporated. At least I now know where they pratice their dark magic. The engineers will have something to say about that!
We need to push a road north towards Eboracum...that can only mean trouble.
What REALLY worries me is the local obsession with witchcraft.....it unsettles the men, not to mention me.

Yes, it was a good battle, but neither protagonist is a rules lawyer, so it's all very civilised ... yes, the Romans got whooped, if you count their losses, and the bridge proved a serious bottleneck, so that a few Celts were able to hold up the Roman reinforcements - while one half of the warband cleaned up at the tower, and the other half sat astride the road in case the legionaries broke out. The Roman horse boys lost two-thirds of their force to a small warband who'd been guarding the sacred site ... but their messenger back to the fort couldn't be caught (he was riding hell for leather with chariots chasing him down!), so the next confrontation may see the Celts in defence and the Romans attacking. All in all, a bitter blow for either side, depending upon how you look at it (in terms of troop losses, from the Roman side, or the discover of the sacred site, for the Celts).

Ok then who won??????? I can see the watch tower went down......you know what you need around that don't you?
Caltrops. in front of a bastion like that you'd have pits with spikes,, caltrops all metres deep and a ditch/trench.......you could hold that tower with 5 dinner ladies if you had defence in depth...where are the scorpions when you need them??

Have to say love the testudo..........nice idea....I could do that with mine ;) i didn't glue the roof on and like Michael angelo i painted the legionaries completely even though you wouldn't normally see them with roof on!!!......OCD perfectionist

I'm hoping your Marine, Bridge commander didn't get hurt too badly, he is a tough cookie.......like a certain Doctor he can regenerate!!!!

Hey BD!
According to the pre arranged victory criteria...was a draw!
But the reality was the power of Rome got one hell of a beating!
It played well in many respects...the outpost wiped out. Cavalry jumped, but returned with the location of the druids. the legions bottlenecking at the gate/bridge which allowed an escape for the celts.
The Marine commander had a special roll to see if he called out his extra troops based on the cavalry messengers thundering past...suffice to say he was wise!
Next game will be recapture the fort and knock down the druid stones.

Excellent battle report and pictures :D Great sense of humour to go with a very lively tale.Well done mate keep it up ;) Oh and very nice figures and battlefield :)
Once you get them running, you can stay on top of them, and that way a small force can defeat a large one every time
