Postby gorgarrak » Thu Dec 08, 2011 9:30 pm

Just a quickie, Did Prussian Landwehr NCOs wear a belly pouch, i cannot find this info anywhere, though i must confess i have not got around to buying Dr Stephen Summerfield's excellent looking volumes yet.

Thanks in Advance.

By "belly pouch" do you mean the giberne? If so, it would appear so, but I am somewhat piecing together things. Hope this helps?

The belly pouch was worn only by Fusilier and/or Jager NCO's IIRC
Will have to check various books etc but I seem to recall that it is much over represented on various figures which are largely based on a single Knotel plate.
I would not expect to see a Landwehr NCO wearing one they would be dressed the same as the rest (as much as you can in the Landwehr anyway) with just the lace to mark their rank.

In 1806 the Fusilier NCO was to carry a belly pouch, no longer so in 1812/13. There is no order for that change left in Staatsarchiv and we may assume that some NCO's still carried them in 1813.
But Landwehr units never got these as a rgular issue item.

Thanks for the responses,
So am i right in my understanding that they were no longer issued to any NCOs by the time that the Landwehr came into existence, but were carried by Fusilier and Jagers who were continuing to wear them after they were withdrawn form regular issue?
