The idea of the more civilized English war depends on one word: English. The moment Scottish or Irish forces got involved in ECW the English needed no German to learn how to be extremely brutal. And raping, plundering and all the other pastimes of 17th century soldiers are not only done by Rupert's men.

And in a bigger British area? Let's not talk about Scottish clan feuds. Or the centuries of war in Ireland.

Units like Wentworth's horse that "only their fiends feared" are no rarity in ECW. There was a reason for clubmen defending the counties against both sides.
Basing house storming, the prisoner Inigo Jones was plundered of everything, even his cloth and went away in a blanket. Feeling glad not to be among those killed in cold blood.
Individual accounts from that time in England are a lot like Grimmelshausen Simplicius TYW stories. There was no Magdeburg but enough awfull things.

@red
The cause of the first Civil war is a fascinating, complex subject, that historians have debated for decades. And a topic I myself have spent many a hour discussing, but... Perhaps we need to give BD, and his excellent airfix tribute musketeer, his thread back! :D ;)

Indeed, though I suspect you can replace 'decades' with 'centuries' quite easily.

hahahahahha I've been painting...and other things, I come and have a look at my thread and a civil war has broken out! :lol:
Thanks Mike!! ;) Good point! Now, I don't mind you discussing the fors and against of the three sides of the Civil war..The Royalists (BOOOO) and the Parliamentarians......That Cromwell chappy is a bit of a cad....hang him!....................and those pesky Ewoks....
.....I find it interesting.....Whilst we all take different positions on the 1640's, and that's fine.....I hope we are all united on the coming civil war....Us, the 99% against the Banksters...or 1%, $600 Million was just stolen from the customer accounts of M.F.Global, think yourself lucky it wasn't your money, from your bank accounts....Perhaps it is just a question of time!...................A bit political...but it is ECW thread ;) whoops, it's my thread and i can say what i like......within reason, and rules of the forum!! Stand up and be counted guys and girls! ;)

Back to the 1600's now.......I have been busy on my Figure and hope to finish him tomorrow, I will then post some updated pictures!....he's coming along.....I need to sleep on what colours to use on the several feathers in his cap!
Right now I have to focus on some important matters..........I'm making Pizza for dinner.....dough is nearly ready then just have to roll it out and add topings!..my house smells like a pizzeria!!!!...if you want the recipe just PM me ;)

Mmmmm....pizza....

Starting tomorrow I'm going to be up to my eyes in mushrooms!!! :shock:

We are gearing up for the big bird holiday over here and I have been asked to make a HUGE pot of my special Balsamic Sauteed Mushrooms. For the amount to be made that means I need to get at least 10 pounds of mushrooms!!!

As to the feathers...I'm rather found of yellow and light to medium blue.
