School Keystage 2 History Project 2012 W.I.P

Postby Biggus Dickus » Fri Nov 18, 2011 9:10 pm

My Wife is a teacher in a middle school here in Dorset and I decided to put my limited abilities into a Battlefield scene between Romans and Ancient Britons to help the kids of year 3 and 4 visualize in a 3d way the things they are studying, and perhaps recruit a few more to the cause ;)
I managed to get hold of a set of romans on ebay as my budget is limited and, i'm working on these first!
They need a bit of work including a swim in some dettol to remove the thick layers of primer paint on most of them!
They were missing most of the command figures so i had to adapt a few legionary bodies using my extensive set of spares!....I'll spare you the group shot they are a bit in need of TLC
but here are the converted centurion and Standard bearer....Centurion was mine as has his skin tones complete.
The plan is to have around 20 Romans in a wedge formation attacking around 30-40 Britons with Bodicca part of the group and maybe a token show from some Auxiliaries...they will all be permanately part of a battlefield base made from MDF and have a dust cover from Perspex. it will be used every year when it is time to study romans again!
I'm also donating my roman helmet....it has a plume in the style of the warlord Praetorians.....it isn't as accurate as i would like...so will get one hand made to replace it! But it would certainly be useful for School, so for me better than Ebaying it!
I need to check up on when they start this topic it's either April or sept 2012...so I have some time to get this sorted!
I will be updating as I get things done.....but here is the only work to date....

I take soldiers into school kids love em.....May I suggest get some big ones 1/32 scale. Melt the shields on ...glue doesnt cut it and let them play.
Display sounds great...I took clives celts and my romans in for yr 3...set it up in a spare room. Kids loved it.
They love the 1/32 more...they get to have a go like we did. If you are allowed...sand tray as well or bricks. It doesnt take much and you have a real life wargame...voices, orders, sorting moving sharing.
Good luck! Noble but watch out for pc problems.

Good idea to get some history to the children.

The super bugging :ugeek: would prefer arms without extra armour against Boadiceas Celts but I'm sure nobody will notice. ;)

Hope you have a big success with the kids.
