The magic wash formula I'm familiar with is 1 part Future to 4 parts water and several drops of black india ink, or whatever color ink you prefer---brown, dark blue. I suppose you could use acrylic paint as well, but I haven't tried it. 1:20 would be very diluted I think.

I used to use that method as well and got quite decent results but that was before the AP dip and the new wave (well christened by Grant) washes became available. I think you will find results slightly better using these .

IMO THe best for soldiers is the AP dip range.

For Larger guns and vehicles GW's Devlin Mud (the Vallejo equivalent wash doesn't work for me) with a spot of Flow enhancer and diluted with water does the job well on these.

For some reason and I have been using the stuff now for over 4 years , I just can't get the Ap dip to work well on vehicles.

I have also noticed Vallejo have now released a dipping product in quite large jars. Has anyone used this or is it just same as the washes but in larger containers?

I too tried the Vallejo sepia and have to confess, whilst it does represent a cost saving I still prefer the results I get with Devlan Mud. I think the Vallejo 'dip' is just a big tub of their wash.

The Vallejo tub is in fact their smaller jar made big. I have the black and the brown, use both quite often, with good results. I don't use GW anymore, but the Devlan was a great product for me.

As for AP, I am planning to use it on my Japanese this weekend, but then add highlights later,
as per DJoker's Excellent Work. He has taken the AP product and then added a layer of awesome sauce on top.

I too have not used the AP with much success on vehicles. I tend to airbrush my vehicles, and use spot washes and so, but the AP stuff is meant to flow, and vehicles have too many flat surfaces to work well. I have a pair of GW Rhinos, and a Dread, done with AP, they are ok, but not what I would call terrific. Too much flat to collect the AP and create messy areas. I am likely to go over with my airbrush and clean them up, not that there's any priority as no one games GW here anymore lately.

Newton and Abbot inks (think I got the name right) someone else mentioned them above are vry good for doing washes especially Peat Brown, I have also used the White Ink and Yellow Ink.

For my flesh I use a 60/40 combination of GW dark Flesh and vallejo Flat flesh (60%). I find this gives it a more natural skin tone colour.

ihave ever used a dip socan not really comment, though some friends have used it to good effect.
