Dad's Army or Allo Allo?

Postby Colonel White » Tue Oct 25, 2011 2:09 pm

No sitting on the fence allowed for this one! ;)

You might think they are both great like me but please pick one or the other and tell us why.
If you don't like any of them please also say . Could be a difficult one for the overseas guys as they may not have seen them.

Any way for me it must be Allo Allo . I think what clinched it for me is Helga's swastika suspenders and the way she teases Herr Flick

Both great timeless classics.IMO

Does anyone know why we can't produce comedies like these any more?

Well
For me it has to be Allo Allo.
I loved that series.
To be honest I cant compare much to Dads army.
Because I only ever saw 1 or 2 episodes.
Now I wish I could see it.Is it on a DVD?

I think the best source for the DVDs for the overseas guys would be Amazon.

I am seriously thinking about getting the Allo Allo set for myself at Christmas ;)

For me it has to be 'Allo 'Allo. If I am 100% honest memories of Vicki Michelle and Kim Hartman alone put this above Dad's Army (cut me a break, I was 13 when started watching). But that aside it was a constantly funny programme, loads of great recurring gags, and many little catchphrases. That said, Dads Army was funny, but doesn't reach the LPM that 'Allo 'Allo does.

Herr Flick: I have three fallen Madonnas, with six big boobies. Only one of them is real.
Helga: Only one big booby?
Herr Flick: One painting is the original, the other two are forgeries.

Because the writers are dead?

Allo Allo for me, but the last couple of series were dire.

Dads Army for me, enjoyed both but Allo allo went on for about 5 series too long and the joke ran very thin by then IMHO. Dadds Army declined a bit but was still good at the end and I think it has stood the test of time much better, I can't bear to watch Allo Allo any more!
