Question about "game scale" and unit reprezentation.

British standard durig Crimea had a golden Roman Regiment number in the centre of the standard. How many regiments should be in a Black Powder army with 2-3 brigades...? Should a Brigade be a "regiment" or should each single unit reflects a regiment of infantry?

What was a typical standard size (HxL)?

Different infantry regiments within a brigade. Each regiment had two battalions. Both battalions, generally, didn't see action together. One was left in reserve. So you wouldn't have a brigade made up of a single regiment. In BP a unit usually represents a battalion (you may have noticed the term being used within the rules).

Was 95t Rifle Brigade wearing bottle green uniforms and forge caps or did they (or other light regiments like the 79th?) wear Shakos as well?

Bottle Green is not Rifle Green, that was very dark. Rifle units did mostly fight as seperate companies, so they had no use for colours as rallying point in a battle line.

Forage caps and Shakos are worn, the cap was more comfortable in the trench war conditions. In the opening battles they wore the shako. But that was normal practise for all infantry and artillery.

I should field light units as Small. No colours.

What about bases? Is it ok to field skirmishers on 4x4 bases?

You can give the rifle green a slight drybrushing of light sand, giving a faded / dirty look. The soldier's Crimea was a mix of mud in the wet part of the year and dust in the rest.
A look in the diaries and letters show a lot of misery caused by clothing that looked nice on a parade place but was not realy suited for a campaign.
For the basing I'm the wrong one to ask, I use diferent rules with 2x2cm single bases.

Correct, we don't have colours in the Rifles.

The green was more likely to go darker rather than lighter with age and wear.

Sorry Janner, the statement of Victorian rifle green getting darker is wrong. The colour was not UV proof and the regulations ordered them to be made darker to prevent the fading to get them too light before replacement. At the end of the 19th century a newly made OR's uniform was nearly black for that reason. Six months later.....

But your statement is correct with the post WW II No. 1 Jacket. I guess you wore one. That's the problem with modern experience, it can't be used without check for 19th century.

2x2 is not for me. To many units changing formations all the time.

I do not want to paint the army with muddy/dusty effect. I like clean effect. Sure, I will add some dirt on trousers but no more than usual. I think of TAN-EARTH from Vallejo with army painter 6mm grass. It worked perfectly for my by Fire and Sword Swedish army.

I do not drybrush large areas on miniatures. I prefer wet shading... It takes forever but I do not have anyone to play with so no hurry.
