Ship's crew wanted

Postby Cubster » Sat Sep 24, 2011 6:46 pm

My Dad has built a 1:50 scale Victory model and wants to find Napoleonic British ship crew in approximately 1:50 scale (so 1:48, 1:52, 1:56, 28mm, 25mm, something around this size) but can't find any. I've had a poke about on interwebby and there are a few sailors in fighting poses, which will no doubt find some use, but what he's really after is men in action on board ship - so sailors manning the guns, pulling on ropes, being generally sailory, officers (perhaps even a Nelson model) and perhaps a few marines.

Anyone got any ideas where he can pick them up?

Have you looked on www.newlinedesigns.co.uk, they have a Nap naval range with blokes doing sailory things plus officers. Thought about this when going through my Hornblower phase but never got round to it.

Cubster,

If you could accept 23mm figures (ie 1:72 scale) then Hat do a good set of British Marines & Sailors. Review is at:

Cheers Rod the Mac, I reckon they're a wee bitty bit too wee, but thanks for the heads-up all the same.

I've contacted Black Scorpion and they're re-releasing the Nelson in metal next month, so ta very much BD. I think I shall simply pass on all those useful links to my Da and leave him crack on with it.

Thanks guys, I did come across the Britannia's but I have a rule of thumb never to buy a miniature when there's no photo. It raises questions as to why the manufacturer doesn't want to show anyone what the model looks like!

I can vouch for Britannia's 20mm stuf! It is quite excellent. Unfortunately, the original proprietor, Mr Dave Howitt, passed away and Grubby Tanks has taken over the manufacturing of the ranges. They have set up the new website and haven't got around to posting many photos. There is a New Gallery on there, but what is displayed are photos of 20mm figures and vehicles from a customer's collection. I don't believe there is anything amiss with Britannia figures and they are much sought after, which is why Grubby Tanks took over....plenty of requests by customers for someone to be take the range on. I would contact Andrew at Grubby Tanks and see if he can furnish you with some photos or samples.
