and which of the four cuff styles, and what about the collarless and lapeled, the collarlesss and no lapels, the Austrian match case for their grenadiers? and all the other bits..?

Actually the Prussian's had two types of cuff, the Swedish or Brandenburg. Take your point about the lapels and collars though. A plastic set of the most common type (brandenburg cuff, lapels and no collar?) would be good though.

I would agree with that - the special sets could be done in metal eg the Garde and the various Jaeger & Freikorps. The plastics should provide the "bulk/core troops" for any nationality to allow the Big Battalions to be built (like the other Warlord ranges this is the benefit of a plastic+metal producing company).

I would also seek the readers indulgence by attaching a modified copy of my post on another forum topic in the LAOK section - as much as anything to bring this idea to the fore again!!  :D

Now that LAOK is out, and the Zulus & Brits are well under way, I too am looking forward to (hoping soon for) ranges of plastics & metals for the mid-18th century to follow up the Charlie & Cumberland figures. As regards the '45 types - lets all hope for some Bagot's Hussars!!

I am fond of Imagi-Nations, and hope (reasonably soon ;) ) for plastic European types to enable Big Battalions of 28's at a reasonable price. I would refer you to my post at the beginning of this topic.

I would also like to add some new ideas to that post after experience with various multipart plastic kits - especially the Pike & Shot troops from Warlord (and the WSS types from another firm). I feel that the option of using a basic troop position like the marching pose in the Napoleonic Prussian Landwehr pack is an excellent idea especially to save time in construction :) and to reduce wasted sprue of unwanted parts (a huge issue in the other company's product :x ).

Separate hats are a good idea to allow for different grenadier caps (not too many in any 1 set) or tricorns (or even bonnets). Needless to say , different sets need to be interchangeable with each other to allow variation (this is where the different grenadier caps could be accomodated).

However several command sprues in a box are needed as many of us like to put 2 or more flags & several officers per unit & the occasional NCO. These could also be provided in individual metal (not a set - eg - I really would like to buy more individual flag bearers in the P&S Scots, rather than a set - really don't need all those drummers!) Mounted colonel's would also fit in this category, along with Vignettes - casualties, sawbones, campfollowers, pioneers & pontooniers, a coach with a noble & his lady, etc, etc, etc!!! :D 8-)

Cheers & Seasons Greetings to All!!

Point noted as well as Simon's reply, but some of these details could be perhaps moulded on (at least some, if not all, of) the figures & easily carved off if not needed eg the grenadier match cases, perhaps even moustaches though these seem pretty universal in the period illustrations.

On this note, I must recommend the new scraping tool for plastic & resin models from Games Workshop (yes, I know I can hear mutterings in some corners!). It is truly excellent & well worth the asking price - the same cannot be said of their overpriced emery boards also of recent release.

Cheers, Rohan.

I'll check it out next time I'm in town. I confess to having a cynical default setting about anything GW release (due to past experiences of their 'inventions'), but I shall endeavour to retain an open mind. Mould line and imperfection removal is an annoying part of the hobby and anything to make it easier is a good idea.
