Well in sunny Bolton

We have the Man and Scythe pub on Churchgate which is the oldest building in Bolton. I believe correct me if I am wrong but this was adjacent to the site for the Execution of the Earl of Derby in the English Civil War.Good excuse for a drink and the pub serves pretty strong scrumpy Hick!

On the civil war scene Cannon Street weas named becasue this was the area the Royalist guns were placed. Nothing to see though.

Theres a really cool place called "Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump". It's where the local Plains tribes would drive the buffalo (tetonka) over a cliff and then saunter down to pick up the broken ones at the bottom. There's also a neat place where there are prehistoric rock paintings near the edge of the Rocky Mountains.

Places for war? Uh...

I lived in Ontario when I was a kid. Saw many of the War of 1812 sites. Laura Secord, Brock Queenston Heights and all that.

Went to Waterloo last year, but that's nowhere near my house. Also visited Vimy, the famous Canadian war site. Very moving, that trip. Even found the grave marker of a Red Deer local, who died age 19 on 9 April 1917, the first day of the Vimy offensive. Sad, that. Around the base of the memorial, there are 13000 names of Canadians who simply ceased to exist during the war. About 4 years ago, they actually identified 2 of them.

Ah well, if you're going to count where you used to live, I used to live down the road from Rorke's Drift and Isanhlwana! This was also not far from the infamous Blood River and the next "village" (small town, really) along was Eshowe!

You lucky devil. Lucky for me, my wife is all about going to south Africa someday, so odds are I will get to see those places. Plus the Boer war Canadian sites.

I live in Linköping, Sweden. The battle of Stångebro was fought there in 1598 between the forces of Duke Charles and King Sigismund. The Duke won and deposed the King which ended the personal union between Sweden and Poland. The Bloodbath of Linköping soon followed where some noblemen loyal to Sigismund were executed. The Duke was technically guilty of high treason which did not matter much since he won. The battle is significant since King Charles was the father of Gustavus Adolphus. Sadly, there is not much to see at the battlefield, but there were some reenactments on the 400th anniversary.

Several renaissance castles in the province were probably financed by loot from the Thirty Years' War. There is a yearly renaissance faire at one of them, Ekenäs castle. The knights are popular with the kids, but I think that a 17th century theme would be more appropriate.

Another battlefield in the province is Bråvalla where a legendary battle was fought in the 8th century. This involved hundreds of thousands of warriors as well as shieldmaidens, berserkers, fighting bears and other beasts. Greatly exaggerated, but perfect for Hail Caesar!

Dark ages shieldmaidens and bezerkers fighting bears, wow that sounds ace! Wish they would make a movie of that!
Edit: Just looked it up and one of the belligerents was called Harald Wartooth, this just gets cooler!
